I was told yesterday by my SO that she can tell what mood I am in just by listening to the music I have in the CD player....

I had the new Staind CD in yesterday and I am sure the volume was up to "that damned kid" level....Then earlier, I wasnt even thinking and popped in some old Greenday when I was driving around at lunch and smiled when I thought about what she said...and yes I was feeling kinda cocky today...

So, think about it...anyone else subconsciencely listen to upbeat music in good times and bluesy or down music in the lower times???

Most definitely have music for the 'down' times. In fact when I was single, and still looking for "Mr. Right", any time a relationship came to a screeching halt (I was usually the dumpee rather than the dumper) I had set stack of tunes I'd listen to to help me wallow in self pity for a while then get over it. Most of them were songs by Brenda Lee. "Break it to Me Gently", "Fool #1" come to mind.
Then there are those songs that even if you're down they have a way of making you smile and you just HAVE to listen to them full blast. Like "Fun, Fun, Fun" and "I Get Around" by the Beach Boys and "Magic Carpet Ride" and "Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf.

The music I listen to seems to always reflect how I am feeling about my LDR fiance, such as whether I am feeling happy or horny regarding him, whether I am upset with him, or whether I just miss him like hell and really hurt inside.

There is also something about when it gets warm in rolling down those windows and turning up the music

I didn't realize it, and I thought I never intentionally gravitated to "mood music"......I thought it found me. Like when I was heavy into thinking about my brother and it suddenly seemed like "his" music was everywhere on the dial! But life can't be all that coincidental......so I guess, YES.......if I'm inna certain mood I choose a certain style or era.

Interesting and enlightening thought skip! Do you have the time....to listen to me whine? LOL!

Everyone in my office avoids me when I have some really intense heavy metal music playing. Like right now I'm listening to Ozzy! I don't get it, just who in the blue hell are they to say if I am in a bad ass mood or not?!!! And what damn difference does it make anyway? I 'm just about ready to choke the living shit out of the whole bunch of them any way!

Maybe I should put on something else like some Bob Segar or James Taylor and just try to chill out for the rest of the day.

I am such a mood girl about so many things, that it would seem to me that I would do it with music too. But sometimes it doesn't actually reflect my current feelings. I tend to use the upbeat stuff when I'm feeling a little down to get my self back to normal, and the mellow moody stuff well...actually I just have way too much of it;) But there is a reason for that...I love vocals and lyrics and adore singing (even though I can't...hehehe) at the top of my lungs while I drive or roam around my house and that just seems to be the stuff I can sing to. There is nothing better than belting out a tune that you know backward and forward and really letting it rip right through you. Happy or down it is exhilarating.:D

I have 'cleaning music' - music which motivates me to get off my fat arse and do some housework.

But I suppose the way I use music is to change my mood. If I'm pissed off I'll try to put something uplifting on (not neccesarily upbeat but something that makes me smile) and if I've been rushing around all day and am feeling tense then I'll play something soothing, like jazz or some old soul.

In the car to and from a certain little flashing bear's house, I have to have something to keep me awake as the drive is over an hour long on just one stretch of motorways and I've done it soooooo many times now that it gets monotonous.
