I love everyone's list (smile). Eros and BCG, I too am shy (a real introvert), at least until you get to know me. I love shy people; usually still waters run deep (smile).
BCG, I can so identify w/the turtle rescue! My daughter and I, when we lived one summer near the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, spent many, many trips watching for turtles to rescue on the road that ran between those 2 rivers. I'd pull over, my daughter would jump out of the car to grab the turtle, then we'd drive closer to the Mississippi River and throw it in. It broke our hearts to see any of them hit.
osuche, I too am very different from everyone else in the family and have never quite fit in; it was and is at times very lonely. (They're mostly ESTJs; I'm an INFJ; and I'm the only Democrat in a sea of Republicans.) You sound very talented. It must be wonderful to be able to play so many instruments. As I always say, the only thing I can play is the radio.
Lovediva, I'll give you all my garlic (smile).
IAKG, I ALWAYS wanted to take Latin...still would love to. Like an idiot, I chose Russian (even though I did love it, too) in high school instead. Latin would have been much more useful.
WildIrish, I've always admired people who can cook. And I know what you mean about the snow and the cold; I always say the snow is just wasted if it is too cold to go out and play in it.
Lilith, how wonderful it must be to be brave! I know I am strong, but I don't think of myself as brave. I seem to be scared a good bit of the time.
I really am looking forward to more people's lists. I love to get to know everybody better (smile).

DM, I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter; my heart goes out to you.
Interesting how we can be shy in r/t yet be nurses. However, I love to be able to get close to my patients and their families. Most of them I get to know quite well because they are on my floor for a long time; the vast majority are terminally ill, and I see them and their families through it to the end.
Like many others here, I'm sure, I'd love to see a pix of you sometime. :) I'm sure the outside is as beautiful as the inside.

Thankyou, BlueSwede.... like I said, it still hurts (always will, I suppose) but I had some good friends around me when I found out, which helped more than I can ever tell them!
Regards being a nurse, it's not something I'd even considered til I was in my mid-twenties....... I liken it sometimes to being an actor, or a comedian; you put on your "professional self" almost like a suit....... and take it off again when you don't need it anymore! Has worked for me for 16 years now, and I'm still enjoying the job!!
Pix........ well, I'm working on it (getting BRAVE enough, I guess!!) One day......................

This group specializes in kids who need hair replacement. I am 1 inch shy of my goal length. It's not a cancer group but a worthy cause none the less.
I actually have a friend that donated like 18 inches of hair to that...he had long hair forever and his g/f talked him into cutting it off and sending it in.

This thread asked for us to list things others probably didn't know about us, things we could become brave enough to share. Much of what has been revealed is very serious, much of it just plain heart breaking. It makes me proud of the Pixies family that those who posted realize that it has been OK to share those things, because the response will be genuine love and caring by the members. We are indeed a huge, informal family who support one another in any way that we can. We don't ridicule, and we love the members for who they are, not what others might expect them to be.:)

I've been reading these with great fascination (and a couple tears), and want to offer something back. But 10 seems like a big number...lets see how this does.
1) I don't speak spanish (at least not well), but I swear FLUENTLY. All a product of growing up in New Mexico.
2) I HATE snakes, and am personally responsible for the demise of 4 diamondbacks. Another product of growing up in New Mexico.
3) I used to be an all-star soccer player...until the doctors told me if I kept playing/running I'd be in a wheelchair well before I was 30.
4) At one point, I could literally catch birds out of the air...although I haven't tested it in the last 2 years. [Damn, always knew that was a skill that would come in handy...but never knew how to stick it on a CV.]
5) I LOVE to cook, the more people coming over the better. If my current career didn't work out, I was going to do it professionally.
6) I crochet afghans as a form of relaxation/meditation. Wish I could quilt...but I'm sure they'd come out hopelessly crooked.
7) I'm dyslexic. No joke.
8) My biggest disappointment in life is that I can't sing. I'd give anything for a half-decent voice.
9) I'm flame shy, ever since the kitchen fire that burned my hand. But I'm getting better. I can handle candles now, so long as they're not right on the edge of my peripheral vision....and haven't had to walk out of a movie for (quick count) 4 years.
10) I have an unbelievably deep admiration for nurses and physiotherapists. Their care, and a bit of luck, meant I got near full use of that hand back after the fire. Every year since, on the day, I take flowers to the hospital nearest where-ever I happen to be living for the local nurses. They weren't the ones that helped me, but I gurantee they worked a miracle for someone else that day.
And there you go, more than you wanted to know about Ginge today ;)

Thank you, Ginger, for making my day! :) I just came home from a really rough shift last night. It was such a pleasure to read what you said about us nurses. Most of us really do try, I think...and really do care about our patients. (I'm sitting here w/a big, big smile.) :D And so glad to hear that your hand is doing so well!

Sorry you had a rough day, Blue....but I'm glad I helped. Hell, I think you guys should get complementary drinks and foot-rubs at the end of every shift at the very least ;) .

1) I've never gone to college and regret it to this day. I would still go now, at age 45, if only I knew what I want to be when I grow up.....*sigh*
2) I prefer cold food to hot food. Cold pizza or chinese is perfect! I wait to eat dinner till it's cool. I've never sent anything cold back to the kitchen in a restaurant. I don't even like my coffee hot (but don't like iced coffee much either) so I only pour 1/2 cup and top it off with cold water.
3) (Really long story...condensed) I had German measles when I was 15....and I didn't know I was pregnant till I was in my 6th month. I had decided, way before I knew of the complications, to have the baby but that I had to give the baby up for adoption (not because of the complications of the measles....which there are many.....but because I had no hope for a proper life for myself, let alone my child, at that particular time) . My son was born on December 9, 1973. I never saw him (but mom did) or I would never have given him up. His parents are wonderful and loving and that's all I had hoped for. He's overcome most of the (birth) complications and he will be 30y/o this year. They never told him of me and I respect their wishes....but they know I am here should they ever need me. I've supplied all medical and family info that they would need and have sent cards and letters to the agency of his adoption since his birth. His file is available to be opened by him at any time. Boy will he have lots of mail! Oh.....and I know his name is Todd!
4) After Todd....and due to complications...I have been unable to have anymore children. I'm not sad about it....though there were times when I was in the past. I have a wonderful life with the knowledge that my son has an equally wonderful life with parents who needed and love him as much as I would have if I could have!!!
5) I don't feel deserving of things (material things) because I know what it's like to be dirt poor. I never dreamt I would EVER own a home as beautiful as the one I have. I tried to never dream of such things while I was growing up. Sometimes I pull into my driveway and sit there in awe......I actually have to will myself to be convinced that this home is mine! Ergo my passion for Habitat for Humanity. I know the sorrow of living in poverty...and I know the happiness of having a home to be proud of! Pinch me!
6) I try not to kill any living animal. Even flies...which I know are dirty little things...I'll try and scoot them out the door or window. When a wasps nest, or something similar, shows up too close for comfort and I know it has to go...I tell hubby and leave the area because my heart aches for their lives lost. But.....ironically......I'm not saddened by the thought of, nor do I fear, death for myself! Go figure!
7) I sleep with a fan on in my bedroom....winter, spring, summer and fall.......and have done so since I was 12.
8) I'm claustrophobic! I love people but can't be in crowds for too long.....so I always find a reason to "escape" outside or to the lobby or somewhere other than there for a moment....to catch my breath. I'll ride an elevator but have to know the escape route as soon as I enter the doors. I'll never have an MRI unless it's "open air".........AND my one and only bathroom is too friggin small! Arrrrrrrrggggg!
9)And yet......I scuba dive! Some people might think that would be a claustrophobic's worst nightmare....but believe me...it's the exact opposite if the visibility is good to great!
10) I wasn't born with that "stop and think before you speak" thingy that, it seems, everyone else I know has! If I think it....you'll know it! You'd think I'd learn to tell at least....."little white lies"....with this affliction (damn that make-up and my mother....lol...she made me take back some make-up I stole from a friends house when I was four y/o and lied about it to her). Duct tape is my only universal cure.....I can't speak when it's over my lips and I can't type when my hands are bound with it!

Well, sure now, that's plenty for now Lixy! Actually, I'm very fond of your "speak before you think" thing - certainly livens things up a lot!! :) <<<<HUGS LIXY>>>>
'sfunny how much we've got in common though...... I (or rather my then g/friend) had a baby when I was young (17), I'm claustrophic (not as bad) AND I LOVE scuba diving!! And, something I DIDN'T post in my own "Top Ten"....... I have suffered very badly in the past from depression, allied to feelings of not being deserving of ANYTHING, not just material things..... so much so, I have been this close to killing myself at least twice over the years. Thankfully, I've been OK the past few years (and ESPECIALLY the past year..... guess why THAT is!!!) but I worry that it'll come back....... and maybe I won't be strong enough to fight it, the next time! Ho hum!! It's all in the lap of the Gods though, innit?!?!

I'm sure she will Lixy, if the need arises again!! She's a tough wee bugger, when she wants to be!! :D:D
Problem with depression is, it doesn't matter how happy or content or unproblematic your life is....... it can get you anyway. Which is why it scares me so much! The BIG difference is, with her, I tell her EVERYTHING, which is something I've never done before...... plus, she's been there herself, AND she's a nurse too!! So, if *I* don't spot it (and I should, I've experienced it enough!) SHE will, and get me to do something about it!!
Ain't love grand?!?!?! I thank my lucky stars every day, for having the tremendous good luck to have met her! :D:D:D

11) I'm an atheist...though I was raised a Methodist and went "church hopping" with my mother all the time! We would visit different "churches" to explore the different religions and beliefs of everyone who make up this great big world. She taught me to respect EVERY persons personal beliefs...no matter how they differ from mine! I can recite the books of the old and new testement to this day, as I had to learn them to earn my very first bible..which I still have. I was 5 y/o at the time.
12) I laughed at Aqua's list and nearly pee'd my pants when I started to read gg's list! I've ordered an exhaust fan for my guest room in preparation for his visit next spring...lmfao!
13) My first husband would watch every sporting event known to man on television, but when it came to sex he never initiated, nor wanted it much....unless he was sleeping and I tried to wake him (of which I learned to do in order to "get any") and then all he would do is talk dirty and sex me up....till he was fully awake and suddenly he was too tired.....again! This made for a frustrating marriage and is the ONLY reason I left him. Otherwise....he was one of the most decent people I have ever met! BTW....I put up with that for eight long years......thinking it would change someday!
14) I am primarily right handed but I'm ambidextrous when it comes to alot of things.....handwriting, batting a baseball and throwing one, giving a hand job, LOL!...etc......but I can't.....um...have never been able to......um...*whispers* wipe myself after using the potty with my left hand.......Oh geezzzzzz! Where's the duct tape?
15) I love blue claw crabs but I don't like lobster.....I prefer beer to mixed drinks.....I never order the most expensive thing on a menu (feeling guilty that I could afford it when I know there are many starving people in the world)......I don't like Dom but I like inexpensive champagne ($12.00ish)......and I've never stayed in a hotel where there is room service (though I'd be willing to try it someday...just once....to order cheap champagne and strawberries at 2am!) Hey! I'm a cheap date! What can I say?
16) I'm a product of the late 60's and the entire 70's (and those of you who know what I mean....KNOW what I mean!) and I've tried every drug under the sun that was available to me at the time....except heroin.......because my brother (now deceased) was an addict most of his life and I didn't want to end up fighting the addiction I watched him battle on and off throughout his adult life!
17) I'd still smoke a bone......but it rarely occurs to me now-a-days. I have a "pot tin" that I keep my "stuff" in and I have a bag of homegrown in it from 1999 (I think that's how long it's been there). I might just roll one up today....lmao! I smoke cigarettes as well, and I'd let ANYONE ON THE PLANET give me a hemi-lobotomy if they could assure me that, afterwards, I would never realize that I had ever started smoking cigarettes and therefore not know of the worst addiction on the planet!
18) On a lighter note....I've quit smoking so many times I'm becoming the world champion of quitters! But....the last time I quit....and started again...I said, "I quit quitting! I suck at it and I hate to suck at anything but cock"! LMFAO!
19) I go to funerals and memorials out of respect for loved ones lost.........but I never visit (on a regular basis) anyones gravesite or memorial plot after the services are over. If I feel a need to "contact" them or be close to them.....I just speak to them wherever I might be.
20) If the world were to end tomorrow......I only have one regret in my lifetime that I would wish to change and make ammends for! There are many things I wish I could have said or done to/for lost loved ones....and many things I wish I hadn't said or done to some people, dead or alive......but there is only ONE thing I would change in order to feel that my life was perfect....regardless of it's imperfections along the way!

6. usually people get to hear what I think about them... this is both good and bad at the same time
7. I can not play a musical instrument (not for lack of trying)... I am somewhat tone deaf... when it comes to music, I appreciate it just fine... but when it comes to being on key there is no hope... it's also not fair that my brother has perfect pitch
8. I'm affraid of heights... more specifically, falling from heights. As a young child I took a header over a railing and traveled down to a nice resounding "thud"... when I dream of falling I always hit at the bottom... that sucks!

18. I've learned that I need to keep tighter reign on my heart.

4. I hate Las Vegas. I lived there for 17 years.

7. My mother and I have spoken, twice, in the past 18 years. No, I don't like her. I am adopted. I overheard her say at a cocktail party one time, "Yes, we adopted her. It's really the fashionable thing to do." Go figure.
8. I was a certified Master Gardener in Nevada and am now in New Mexico. (The time and credit don't transfer from state to state.)

I know this sounds funny, but I kind of feel like I let them all down. You know?
17. I have no friends. Truthfully. None. I find that I prefer the company of my dogs to anyone else, including my husband. Some days, I feel that he's just a visitor until Monday rolls around. It's becoming harder to have conversations with people.

Wyndhy...I think it was Stephen Hawkins, patriot & signer of the Declaration of Independence who said, (and I'm paraphrasing) "There's nothing so terrible that it can't be talked about." I don't know what happened, as I'm not on the board very often. I don't think people would think that poorly of you. Sometimes folks feel cornered, fearful, trapped or uncomfortable. This has been a very interesting and informative post and I'm glad it was started. I like learning new things about people, however, I don't know that I am very good at sharing the "real" me. I tend to hide my true feelings behind humor, I suppose it's my shield. So....here goes nothing....
1. I have three boys; Joseph, Adam and Tyler. Joseph, who would be 18 on November 16th of this year, died at birth. That changed the person I was and was the beginning of the end of my marriage, although it continued for 11 more years. I love my kids to distraction, but wish I was a better mom, although they think I'm great :)
2. I have been married twice, which not very many people know. The second marriage lasted less than a year, was abusive, almost destroyed my sanity and caused me to loose everything I owned. Hmmm..wonder why I have trust issues with men? lol
3. I love to read. I have no desire for it to be non-fiction. If I am going to read I want it to take me away from real life for a while. I love mysteries, suspense of any kind and fantasy.
4. I love music and when it's playing, no matter where I am, I have to move. Out in public or not, I will be tapping my foot or singing along. You should be in the car with me and my kids when a song we love comes on the radio. We all grab something to use as a "microphone" and rock going down the road. Yes, we do get strange looks. lol
5. I love to sew, crochet and cook....they each hit me at different times, depending on my mood. I love to make things for others :)
6. I think that I am a loyal friend and will do anything in my power to help my friends, family, or even strangers if needed.
7. I love animals. I have one dog that I have had for seven years, got him when he was 3 weeks old. Rescued him, his 8 brothers and sisters and his mom from an abusive family. Yes, they all were brought back to health and placed in excellent homes. I also dog sit a wonderful black lab. She is with me about 23 days a month. Her mom and dad became truck drivers and I didn't want them to have to give her away. YES I'm a sucker :) I truely believe she was meant to be PF's dog as she loves to steal panties!!!
8. I almost died in 1990 when it was discovered that I had tumors on my parathyroid glands....2.5 out of 4 of them were removed. I was informed that if my calcium level had reached 15, my heart would have stopped and I would have died; the calcium level was 14.7 the day of surgery. Yes...I do believe things happen for a reason, I do believe in miracles and I do believe in God.
9. If I could learn to do anything in the world, I would learn sign language. It has always been something I have been interested in.
10. (AQUA....My picture has appeared in several publications which are read internationally)....I want to know WHAT publications! lol
That's all for now..I won't bore you any longer. Thank you and g'nite :)

Oh yeah....he's the only person I've ever had sex with too! We were married in Jamaica at Sandals Dunns River, alone, sent by my parents to start our lives off together (after dating 7 years-he claims my dad paid him to get me out of the house at 23 years old!)

1-I met Darren Hayes from former band Savage Garden (now a solo artist) in NYC-won a very hard to win contest lol.....but kind of ruined it.. I'm nowhere near as into his music as I was before I met him...I still think he's damn good looking and his music is very good too!
2-I've been to two Stones shows with my dad-I got a very cool relationship with him like that....and he paid for my tickets both times at $375.00 each!
3-In Madison Square Garden I got pulled up front row at an Elton John concert with my cousin (we were both hmm..17 I think at the time)and then we both got high fives from Elton after a song of his.....high five to me and then went over and did the same to my cousin, how cool!
4-I know how to ride a motorcycle, and have been riding motorcycles since before I learned how to walk (my dad would ride around with me on his lap). I got my first motorcycle when I was in grade school, and now currently just got a new motorcycle that I can't wait to fix up and ride!
5-I really don't like American sports much...after having been to Australia and gone to an Australian football game, I think American football is so lame! lol
6-In March 2004, when I was coming home from Nicaragua from a trip, I had gotten so drunk the night before that I was drunk checking in, on the plane, and for most of my 6 hour layover in El Salvador! lmao
7-I was in choir all through middle and high school, and still enjoy singing daily today..but I'm very shy about my singing abilities lol.

9-I have been working at my office for a year now at my college. I work at the Testing Office and among general phone and office duties and filing etc, my main responsibilities are for the handicapped/blind/deaf/learning disabled students. I assist them in taking their exams by writing for the handicapped/blind etc. and/or reading for the blind/handicapped etc. I really enjoy my job.
10-Within the 4 years it takes to get through high school, I had attended 4 different high schools b/c of my parents moving around..however I've managed to stay in contact with at least one person from each school I've made friends with.

1. I have 3 half brothers and 3 half sisters some quite a bit older then me. I was pretty much an only child growing up.
2. I was not married to my daughters father, even thou we were together for almost 6 years.
3. I knew what love was but never experienced love until now. I want to do every little thing I can for him, grow old together, wake up every morning next to him, be his soulmate and best friend. But it's all still so new and I'm still scared it's a dream.
4. I don't play jokes on April Fool's Day because it's the day my father passed away.
5. I love to read and is my way for me to escape from life.
6. I love my daughter but most of the time I feel as if I've let her down.
7. I'm an emotional person, I cry very easily, sometimes just because.
8. I've gotten very good at hiding my bad feelings or the bad things in my life from others. I don't like to trouble others with my problems. I've never been very good at asking for help. Others think I'm strong, but I'm scared of everything. I put up a good front.
9. I give great advice, but can't take my own. I'm just as scared of it as they are.
10. Pixies has brought me out of my shell. Given me courage, hope, compassion, laughter, love. It's still very scary.

Huh what to say to follow all of that^^^
I will likely appear shallow, but nonetheless here are mine ...
1. I love my kids more than life itself; they are my end all be all.
2. I kept wyndhy's secret for what 5 months? Even though I wanted to rant about it on the threads in all CAPS!
3. I am an Environmental Engineer that isn't in it to save the planet, but only for the money (there you go Lil I have finally fessed up to what I do for a living).
4. I am a complete movie head, I often speak in movie quotes (that one drives wyndhy nuts sometimes)
5. I am a HARDcore NFL fan, that uses lucky whatevers to help my team (shirts, underwear, hats, action figures, whatever brings my team luck at the time), like the outcome of the game is dependant upon what shirt I have on?
6. I haven't spoken with my mother (more then just trivialities) in more than 20 years (long story there).
7. Wyndhy and my kids are my only real friends in this world.
8. I smoked pot everyday through college as well as while going to graduate school and still managed to get straight A's.
9. I am incredibly paranoid that someone I work with will figure out who I am based on some of these.
10. I am a very aggressive driver, be warned don't catch me in traffic on a bad day. For that matter I am just plain old aggressive in life, don't mess with me or my family if you know what is good for you. It may take me a millions years to exact revenge but it will come.
11. I have a very hard time trusting anyone. I barely trust Wyndhy after the 12 years we have known each other.
Wow that was tough. Thanks for listening! Hope I haven't scared anyone. :)

Like some others have done, I'll see if I can't add another ten little facts ...
11. Since I've retired, I've loved doing charitable work. Fund raisers; collecting goods for the poor, etc. Very rewarding.
12. I have a part time job that I enjoy because it gives me a chance to meet and visit with lots of people.
13. I still haven't gotten back into my art the way I'd hoped to ... been too busy. Still a goal of mine.
14. I love the Christmas season (which is coming up pretty quick). The lights and music have always appealed.
15. Tend to be a pretty trusting person. You almost have to convince me to not trust you.
16. I like to take drives into the countryside or visit parks.
17. I really enjoy our grandchildren and delight in the time we've had to spend with them.
18. I like to fly kites. (Don't think I've shared that before. :))
19. Quit smoking 7 years ago this coming Christmas Eve.
20. I love visiting shut-ins from our church. My wife and I take communion to them and enjoy having a chance to talk with them.
21. I love Pixies-Place (Which probably comes as a surprise. )

So, this is the umpteenth time I've sat here and tried to do this thread....I wonder if i can hit enter today?
1) One of the biggest regrets of my life is dropping out of college at the end of my third year to be with the ex-hubby.
2) I have had several miscarriages, including one that was at about 6 months. Each one devastated me. And even though fate knew what was what by not putting children in that awful marriage, I will always miss not holding my child.
3) I was an only child....an oops, if you will....born after my parents had been married 23 years.....Oh, I was loved greatly by them. My mother had been told after a stillborn son during the second year of their marriage, that she would never have any more children.
4) I love my cats!!!! I have 8....they live outside tho.
5) I used to travel alot before i was married, and i miss doing that. Now this may strike you as terrible....but other than one short 4 day trip to the mountains of NC, and one weekend trip to see my best friend in another town, I've been stuck here in bumfuck for over 20 years. And I am planning on rectifying all this.
6) At work, I love my older patients the best. I always have.
7) I really do let things roll off me alot. I just choose to not let the inconsequential get me drawers in a bunch.
8) I am trying to develop a taste for red wine.
9) I was back in college when my marriage fell apart, and had to stop because of finances, after going out on my own. Once the divorce is final, I can get lots of financial aid, so I will finish this time!!! Am trying to become a medical coding specialist. After more than 20 years working in medical labs, i need to do sumpin different now.(Just noticed, i stopped school when i found him and stopped again when i finally got rid of him....now isn't that a coincidence?)
10) I think I'm more of a sexual creature now than i've ever been in my life.

I think I ended on number 21 last time ...
22. We've had seven children ... 4 boys and 3 girls which is coincidently the same number and distribution as our combined parents. I had one brother and my wife had two brothers and two sisters. Voila', 4 boys and 3 girls.
23. We tend to drive our cars until they drop. We've got 4 cars with almost 600,000 miles on them.
24. We like to stay in touch with friends and people that have meant a lot to us. We've been close to two couples for forty years now even though for several years we lived almost 70 miles apart and are still about 10 miles from each.
25. I love thin crust pizza with far, far too much stuff on them. :)
26. Been to thirteen countries and most of the states.
27. I enjoy playing around with computer graphics.
28. Collect DVDs and VHS tapes. Several hundred in my collection.
29. Still enjoy listening to vinyl records.
30. Drink my coffee black about 97% of the time. Once in a great while will have a flavored coffee but it's not my favorite.

This thread makes me cry. Every time. I'm so amazed how open we are with one another, and how much I care about our little community. And then I saw skip's posts.
OK....In the spirit of sharing. Some new facts about me - this is mostly new stuff.
21. I don't think I can ever go back to Ohio, I've outgrown my home
22. I love my mom but I am really mad at her because she doesn't take control of her life. I'm sad to admit it, but she is a cautionary tale for my life.
23. I'm paying for a top tier MBA, and I think I'll leave MBA school and take a pay cut to go do what I want to do with my life. I've been spending the past year working up the courage to make it happen.
24. I still wake up crying a couple times a month, which is one of the only times I let myself cry
25. I am completely off Rx for my rheumatoid arthritis, thanks to good health and working out, and that makes me really proud...one of the biggest things I've done for myself in my life.

Okay, a friend asked me to give this a go so........ how tough can it be right?
Start easy and work my way in right..........
1. I'm 38 years old, never married, no kids.
2. Got a B.A. degree in Mass Communications (1990) and completed all but three credits and my thesis towards an M.A. in communications studies.
3. Dreamed as a boy of someday playing baseball for the Chicago Cubs. Senior year of college I decided that I had to try and walk onto the baseball team just to see "what may have been". I played in high school but wasn't good enough to get any offers or anything. Made the team on the final cut and got to play in just one game before I had to give it up because of class and work obligations. Got to play 2nd base just like my baseball idol, Ryne Sandberg, and struck out three times at the plate. Got to hit a 4th time in the top of the 9th inning and I hit a home run that won the game for us. I can't explain how great that felt.
4. I was engaged to my high school sweetheart but it just wasn't to be. We were simply too young to be doing something like that. We broke up when I caught her cheating on me with a friend of her younger brother (who was 13 years old).
5. Five different ladies have asked me to marry them over the years but I just couldn't do it. A couple of them I loved very dearly but I have a reason to be a bit gun shy about a commitment like that. If I can hold it together long enough to finish this post you'll find out why.
6. Parents divorced when I was 11 and my sister and I lived with our mom. Dad was an abusive prick to both mom and my sister but not with me until the summer we moved. He got mad at me for not mowing the lawn up to his standards and decided he would chain me to a tree in the front yard and take the belt to me. That son of a bitch died in '93 and I strive everyday of my life to be a better man than he was.
7. Like to keep things pretty private and actually I've opened up more in this past month or so here at Pixies than I have at any time in my life. I have sort of followed along in the background for a few years and just decided to dive in a while back. Hopefully I'm not annoying you all too much.
8. I'm a dog lover, always have been. Got a really special little guy who is mine now but I'm afraid I'll have to get rid of him soon.
9. Worked jobs in radio, television and at a newspaper while in college. Didn't have the looks to continue in TV and the voice was there for radio but the money wasn't going to be there.
Okay, number 10. This is sort of a tough one for me but what the hell. I see my friend has opened up here so I trust her instincts.
10. I was born with a chronic/terminal lung disease. At the time, kids usually didn't survive for very long with this affliction. Luckily I had a more mild case of it and was able to be relatively normal throughout my childhood and early adult years. It has caught up with me in a big way over the past few years and quite frankly I'm in sort of a daily struggle the magnitude of which some days I don't know if I can handle. I've had to leave a job that I didn't love but did enjoy the people I worked with and had moved up quite rapidly into "kinda big wig" position due to it. I'm currently on Soc Sec Disability because my lungs function at such a low level.
That's the main reason I've never married. I knew this was coming and I just couldn't bear to put someone I loved threw the pain of seeing me fail as is inevitable.
Can I go with an 11th one too?
11. I will break out crying every time I see the ending of the movie "Field of Dreams." Brings back the only good memories I had of my father. We used to play catch out in the front yard of our farm. He even wore an old time mit that was all fingers and no webbing. He gave me that memory and a love of that game that I just can't shake.
12. What the hell, may as well not stop now huh? I have sort of a list of goals I'd like to accomplish and recite them every morning as soon as I get done with my respiratory physical therapy to clear my lungs:
*Someday I will see Charlie Brown will kick that football.
*Someday I will see the Cubs win the World Series.
*Someday I will live to see them find a cure for cystic fibrosis.
Well, Charles Schulz has died. The Cubs have scared me a couple of times and well, I'm fading pretty quickly so I really hope that last one happens really soon.
This thread makes me cry. Every time. I'm so amazed how open we are with one another, and how much I care about our little community. And then I saw skip's posts.
Exactly. :tear:

1. I'm an incredibly guarded person and share very little about my past with those that are close to me, just this year I have finally started to unload some of it.
2. While I love my parents dearly, I'm incredibly ashamed of them more often than I care to admit.
3. I worshiped one of my siblings and ended up extremely disappointed. We don't speak unless absolutely necessary.
4. My other sibling has always disliked me. I finally spoke my mind a year ago and that put an end to our relationship.
5. I've accepted that I don't have a strong family connection and can only hope if I ever create my own family I can show them how to be an open and loving family.
6. I'm the only person in my mom's family to attend college. I'm the only person I'm aware of in both sides of the family to earn a master's degree. No one in my family understands the level of accomplishment I've earned.
7. I wonder where my drive for success and education came from, whomever planted the seed, I'd like to thank.
8. I'm in debt greater than I ever thought I could be, but I'm digging myself out of it one month at a time.
9. I'm overweight and my confidence suffers greatly from it. I have tried often to change this but usually the 3 month mark is what breaks me of the new and improved lifestyle.
10. I swore I was a dog person and despised cats until I got a cat of my own three years ago. Although I'm allergic and he's a PITA I couldn't imagine not having him or having a dog again.

I checked this thread twice and can only find 10 so far so here goes
11. I am still tortured by my relationship with Skipthisone and go from loving him to hating him still all these years later. He taught me so much and I'm grateful but I wonder if I'll ever be able to get past what he did. I still feel guilty, distraught, and abandoned.
12. I'm not really a good teacher. I find it difficult to show my students how to do specific tasks. I know that I'm still new at this but I need to learn some good strategies.
13. I waste a lot of money and buy more clothes than I can get good use from. I end up giving most of it away often still with tags attached because I only end up wearing things I love.
14. I never wore red ever until a few years ago when someone I who I really respect the opinion of made me feel like I was beautiful in it.
15. I'm not sure how I really ended up running Pixies or why both sets of owners have been kind enough to let us hang out together on a site that costs more $$ than it makes. But I'm grateful everyday.

Well let's see how this introspective goes.....
1. I'm very grateful to Lil and Pixies for giving me a place to hang out and be myself
2. I have the most wonderful wife that puts up with my idiosyncrasy's
3. I'm the oldest of 5 and the only college grad as is my wife and 2 kids
4. I'm not happy about some choices I've made in life
5. I tend to plan most of my life as opposed to being spontaneous
6. I tend to have bouts of SAD this time of year
7. I usually see the funny side of most circumstances
8. My profession has allowed me the opportunity to meet fascinating celebrities and some great leaders of our country
9. All people I've come in contact with have added an additional dimension to me and made me what I am today..... even as I still evolve
10. My wife and adult children are my reason for being
Neige
12-05-2006, 11:48 PM
1. I play Neopets. :o
2. Only in this past year have I learned to like beer.
3. It's not easy to be one of only about 50 000 french (first language)-speaking Nova Scotians.
4. I am Catholic, and say the rosary when I go to bed to help me fall asleep. I was the sacristan at my church back home for a few years.
5. I love studying. However, I will procrastinate as long as possible before beginning an assignment.
6. I am a very clumsy person. I will trip over my own feet, spill anything spillable, break anything breakable. I will laugh while doing it, though.
7. When I was in grade 5 and 6, the others in my class at school would pick on me and torture me psychologically. To this day I hate the teacher for never helping me. Only after I was crying in pain and frustration would he try to get them to shut up. Day after day.
8. Because of #7, I was very depressed as a pre-teen and to a certain extent as a teen. For a few years I cried myself to sleep every night, and while I never tried to kill myself, I thought of it every day.
9. Because of #8, I hate crying. I can cry by myself, but I try not to let myself cry in front of others. This makes it difficult for me to confront issues in relationships, since tears are so often unavoidable.
10. I am working hard on voicing my needs in my relationship with Lake. I lost him once through my own stupidity... I ran away because it was easier to do that than talk. He is the love of my life and my soul mate. With him I am complete.

7) I wish I was better at gaining "friends". I have a few friends that I am close to, but its a fairly small group. I'm just not one of those who has friends that number in the triple digits.
8) I am an excellent cook, on the rare occasions that I choose to do so.
9) I'm a huge baseball fan, and some day will visit all of the MLB ballparks with my son.
10) I've visited 34 of the 50 states, 4 Canadian provinces, and 14 countries.

Model Railroading, eh, 1nutworld? I used to have a nice "N-Gauge" layout myself, although we had to take it down and I've never gotten to set it back up again. It was basically a point-to-point line short line called the "Harrison and Duffy Railroad" between to small towns with a central loop to alow continuous operations while yard work was being done at either or both terminals. Along the loop were various industries and another small community.
Love model railroading and would like to get back into it some day.
Saw a cute idea you may enjoy. In a Model Railroading magazine, the person told the readers that he painted opposite sides of box cars with different names (like B&O on one side and Santa Fe on the other). From any angle you could only see the one side, but when the train reversed direction coming out of a tunnel or something, it looked like a whole different train. :)

Thanks DB.
I never saw that article, but then, I've just had a subscription since this summer. It's an interesting idea.
The hobby is on "hold" for a bit, but I can't wait to get working on it soon.
I've got my benchwork done for a roughly 12 x 8 x 6 L shaped HO scale layout. Now that I've got it built, I already want to change to one that is more managable going along the walls of my basement. But given my circumstances, I think I can wait a while before I get to work on it.

My turn to spill my guts
1. I have a phobia of bridges, such as long ones, wooden ones, curving ones, suspension, tall ones especially ones over water. When I drive, I fear that I am going to crash into the side rails. When someone else is driving, I am highly critical of their driving when they go over bridges. (Cedar Rapids Iowa has an interstate road that goes through it that is alllllllll bridges--terrifies the shit outta me)
2. that being said, I have no fears of driving in large cities though......go figure
3. I love to drive, and not driving right now is driving me nuts (pun intended)
4. I have Bi-polar II disorder, and right now, you'd think that I would be in a mainia, but I am in a depression and not very chatty so I feel guilty. You all will know when I am in a mania as my posts count will go up fast and I tend to go to chat more. I am on some really good medication for it and I am able to be functional when I am depressed.
5. I have a weight problem, those who know me in real life know how big I am, but online I have hidden it well, I think. However, if any of you have seen the movie "Shallow Hal" I think that my inner beauty rivals that of Gwenyth Paltrow. Mayhem is helping with my weight and body image with love and lots of sexercise.
6.I am a very caring and trusting person and I have been burnt several times because of it, but it hasn't hardened me. I love wholeheartedly and you will know if I love ya.
7. as some of you may know, I was shown the way to Pixies by Lost. I started posting because I wanted to impress him because I had the hots for him. I stayed because I fell in love with the Pixies family and fell in love with my Mayhem
8. when I was little, snakes, spiders, lizards, worms and frogs would creep me out, now I loves them!
9. I faint at the sight of my own blood bleeding from a wound, or a blood draw at a hospital. Yet I can donate blood and not get faint or woozy.
10. Mayhem and I are getting married exactly 6months after (or before, however you want to look at it) my birthday. We are getting married December 29th 2006 at 1430 GMT!
I want to add that I am a very slow typist so this list took me an hour to do.

Well...I suppose that since it's been a few years since I contributed, SO...
21. Sometimes the stress of single parenthood gets to me, and I feel extremely guilty I am not able to be everything my children need me to be and still maintain my sanity.
22. Sometimes I feel I am winning my self-esteem battle, but most of the time I'm on the losing team.
23. I have missed being at Pixies more than I ever thought I would, but it was good for me to be away for awhile anyway.
24. I hope in the next year that I can resume working on my ever-elusive degree, perhaps starting to work part-time to finish it more quickly. It's more for self-satisfaction than anything.
25. I continue to be very angry with my body for my diabetes. Intellectually I know that the things I do (or, in some cases, don't do) are a form of self-punishment and that I need to let that go, but it's very difficult, and I am still struggling to put those emotions to rest.

OK - a little bump up from cavegirl and a few facts about me that you won't know...
1. I have two university degrees. A BA (hons) in Literature and Creative Writing and a PGCE Cert. Ed. to teach English Language, Literature and Creative Writing to Adults over 16.
2. I've written a sitcom, two plays and am working on a novel at the moment. All three unpublished at the moment, but am working on it
3. I play classical, electric and acoustic guitar.
4. I have an upright piano, which I cannot play yet.
5. I love comedy - particularly British stuff, like Victoria Wood, The League of Gentlemen and The Royle Family.
6. I used to sing when I was younger and wanted to do it professionally, would still like to one day - my musical heroes are Maddy Prior and Sandy Denny.
7. I am very interested in history and genealogy and started to research my family tree last year - I've so far got back to 1699 on one branch and found that I have ancestors from Northern and Southern Ireland, America and Germany.
8. I work part time in a voluntary capacity for my local genealogy society looking up and sorting out the death registers for my local community - which is grimly fascinating.
9. I have recently sold my car because I can't drive it - because of number 10
10. I suffer from quite severe and disabling OCD and BDD, with very severe depression and anxiety, plus an eating disorder. I have a very bad body image and very low self esteem, I cannot work at the moment and am currently waiting to receive treatment for my problems - but will have to wait for at least another 8 months. I am very alone in the world and have few friends or people who understand me. My OH also has OCD and suffers from ADHD. We make a right pair, but at least we have each other. Sometimes.

Welcome to the couch CG.
11. I just celebrated my one-year anniversary with this company, and I still don't know if I made the right decision. It's not better or worse than my last job...just different.
12. Holidays feel incredibly unremarkable for me, and I worry that my kids feel it too. It's usually a letdown and I wind up feeling like a bad parent.
13. Mrs. WI is diabetic and that doesn't mix well with my enabling personality. She has little willpower and I aim to please. And I love carbs.
14. I always drive the speed limit. Even got pulled over because of it once...I guess going exactly the speed limit makes the po-po suspicious.
15. I still hate the cold.
16. I hold back with a lot of things. And I don't know if it's because I'm afraid of failing, or if I'm afraid of succeeding.
17. I've always known that I love Mrs. WI more than she loves me.
18. I only make time for myself once a year. I feel guilty leading up to it, and never regret it afterwards, but don't ever use that as a catalyst for change.
19. I see beauty in things all around me.
20. My parents don't want to live in CT anymore because of the cost of living but are waiting for me to move out so they can follow. They bring home house magazines from every state they visit and tell me all about how great other places are. Why is it up to me? I feel a bit overwhelmed, like I'm treading water and my arms are getting tired.

I'll just try to pick up where I left off before.
13. I'll be taking a trip to California in just over a month to see my parents. Haven't seen them since July of 2003 and I can't wait. And I also cannot explain how excited I am about where I'm going when I leave my folks' place.
14. Three weeks or so ago I was having nightmares about my dead father. Hadn't really thought about him in years. I decided that I needed some closure so I went and visited his grave. It didn't go as I expected........ I wasn't as angry as I thought I'd be. The nightmares stopped though.
15. Kept this one pretty much to myself but about two months ago I made perhaps the biggest decision in my life. I was offered the opportunity to undergo a lung transplant. It's something I had wondered about for much of my life. It isn't a cure for cystic fibrosis but it could possibly make my quality of life better. Well, I wrestled with it for about a month before finally seeking the help of a friend. To be honest, I always thought my mind was made up as to what I would do if ever the opportunity presented itself but when it finally did, I was sort of lost. The trip to the hospital to give the doctors my decision was only about an hour drive but it felt as if it lasted for about a week. I honestly didn't know what my answer to them would be until I set foot in the hospital that morning.
My mind flashed to just one sentence from what must have been about two hours of discussion on the phone with my friend and something they said made it easy for me to come to my decision. I won't go any further into it because it is pretty personal but I did turn down the transplant. And I'm very happy with my decision, it was the correct one to make. I have no regrets about it.
Thank you so very much to that friend, I am very much at ease with my life right now.
Fifteen seems to be a nice place to stop, don't ya think? :p

1. I just read thru this thread for the first time...& having a hard time believing I didn't look in on this before, or that my fellow pixies could be so open about themselves. (I think I may have missed this before because it appears to have started when I had to take a "sabbatical" from Pixies due to major life crisis...more on that below, maybe)
2. I lost my only brother & both parents within a 6-year period (1992-1998)...all of them to some form of heart disease.
3. Almost 5 years after my mother died, I discovered I wasn't the only one left after all...my half-sister called me, revealing that my mother had her at 17 & gave her up for adoption. She was happy with her life with her adopted family, but was just overwhelmed with curiousity to know more about her biological family. We discovered together that we all may be more about our genes than people want to believe, she is in many ways more like the mother she never met, physically & emotionally as well. Me, I still have a few issues that Mama shared many things I didn't know about her during her final years, but never saw fit to let me in on her darkest secret (that she had to know might come back later)...to say I was gobsmacked at this revelation doesn't even begin to cover it...
4. As a child, I was redheaded with freckles & was chubby & non-atheletic, & was teased mercilessly about it...having an Irish short fuse probably means I gave them the reaction they wanted, & compounded the situation. To this day, I detest bullying in any form. Which sort of brings me to...
5. I have always had a hard time watching movies or TV shows where people are helplessly bullied...I get really angry inside, my BP goes sky high, & sometimes I have to leave the room to avoid lashing out at someone I shouldn't.
6. My brother was 7 years older than I, I knew I was an "accident" early on...my mother confessed that my brother was such a handful, they really didn't plan to do it again, but that I was never unloved because of it, & I do believe I had a loving (if somewhat dysfuntional) upbringing. With all that, you might think I try to avoid spacing my own children at such a wide interval; you would be wrong ;)
7. In 2003, I was diagnosed with diabetes after developing a painful urinary tract infection that wouldn't go away on its own. A few months later I lost my last job (I admit I knew my career track was coming to an end anyway). Shortly after that, I developed severe back problems, eventually leading me to apply for SS disability, which finally started paying around Aug. last year. At year's end, I felt compelled to let my family know that I appreciated having them there thru that year in Hell.
8. Maybe a more postive note, I developed a love of music at a very early age (thanks to that older brother, who turned me on to R&B and Rock before I was even a kindergardener)...my ambition was be a rock star someday, of course it didn't happen, but I still play with a band of other old farts like myself, & still get that buzz when we do play in front of a crowd, kinda like jumping into the bath with a plugged-in toaster...
9. My father's 47th birthday was exactly one week before I was born.
10. After my mother died, I found their marriage certificate, which revealed that she was pregnant with my brother when they got hitched...hmm, Im beginning to see a pattern here ;)

Looking at my list now, I hope I didn't come off as whining about things, but everybody else had opened up so completely I felt compelled to do as much. These are only the first 10 facts about myself that maybe go a long way toward explaining how I came to be what I am at this moment...and I actually feel a lot better about myself these days, than I did just a couple of years back...
Then again, if I can cop a few more hugs from Eastern out of the deal, maybe a little whining isn't such a bad thing after all ;)

1.) I recently converted to Roman Catholicism
2.) I have never had a relationship with a man my age. They have all been older. Analyze what you will, but I do not find men my age as attractive as I do a man in his mid to late 30s.
3.) I am a movie buff. I have dozens of DVDs and a new big screen to watch them on.
4.) My cat always sleeps with me. Even when my man is home..He just sleeps on my side of the bed then.
5.) Pink is my favorite color
6.) I have always been a confrontational person. I have a general bad attitude and sometimes I use it when I shouldn't, but I don't get into many physical altercations with people. Not anymore. I've outgrown it.
7.) I love golf. I got my first clubs when I was 10 years old. I just got a snazzy new PINK burberry golf bag. We are members of the golf and country club here and sometimes during the day I go with my cousin's girlfriend to play.
8.) I used to suffer from an eating disorder (anorexia/bulimia). I still have to stay away from triggering people and events or I will get the urge to starve myself "thin" again. The only thing about that is with anorexia there is no "thin enough". There is only dead.
9.) I love photography. I got some swamp pics last weekend. I would love to make that my new occupation.
10.) I am an LPN though I am not currently employed. I have started working on becoming an RN but not currently in school.

Dang==HUGS ALL PIXIES!
1) Not too big (but it is actually big) of a secret if you have read our posts--Seen Aqua naked in person and I refuse to kiss and tell.
2)Another not so big of a secret--I want DP with two guys! The two toys or the toy and a guy is not enough. But I have my requirements....the kissing between me and each of the men must be breathtaking....no kissing between the guys please!
3) Should all of these be sexual? If so...would love to play dress up.....any volunteers for "there can be only one"? I am a sucker for accents. OH I can do quite a few myself.
4) I have bought toys over the internet and they told me they were discreet....they were until I saw my credit card bill that said...www.therabbitvibrator.com...not so discreet in my book.
5) My first visit to a "toy" store involved two coast guard men literally carrying me into the store and barricading the store until I had looked at every single item and at 19 I wanted to run out red faced!
6) My most hilarious toy store moment=--was in a huge toy store and you know how you see the "Gladiator, Hercules, Adonis", etc...well there was this huge wall of dildoes and vibrators that was like 15 feet high and an ungodly amount of feet wide--I got to the end of the line and saw this one -- I was laughing so damn hard that everyone in the store had to come over--It was called the "asian" and was as big around as my pinky! NO joke! Sorry if that offends other pixies, but in hindsight I wish I had bought it as a conversation piece!
7) Went to a "toy store" recently and would love to receive many of them as gifts.
8) I recently had sex after 4 years and nine months of abstinence....he is willing to do the pics of him in my ass and of the various toys and him....can't wait to see if he lives up to that!
9) And yes he has seen the pics...he saw them before he saw me naked.
10) I am insatiable and need to cum at least ???? how many times a day???

And maybe some not so heavy little known facts about myself;
11. I play (in order of my competence) bass, guitar, keyboards, flute, played the trumpet back in 5th-6th grade but I wouldn't want to try to play it again if there was anybody within earshot...but I have a totally white sense of rhythm when confronted with drums or other percussion instruments...oh yeh, I sing a bit...
12. Speaking of which, I once surprised other band members (& myself a little) with a dead-on Gregg Allman impression...the song was "Statesboro Blues", if anyone cares...
13. I've always done well in artistic pursuits with my hands, at one time or another I could draw with pencil and/or ink, carve elaborate designs in leather, even did some interesting sculpture once, & I still do some very nice woodcrafts (don't take my word for it, ask a few Pixie ladies who own some of my work)...but my handwriting is so bad, my 10th grade English teacher strongly suggested I give up cursive for manuscript.
14. Never officially diagnosed, but I have some dyslexic tendancies...mostly things like turning "B"s into "D"s, and "P"s into "R"s...not sure why that is...
15. My IQ has been tested at 129 & later at 176...not sure if I should tell that, seeing as how some might say I'm pretty smart to be such a dumbass...
I'll leave it at 15 for now...this is not as easy as it looks...

11-05-2008, 02:18 AM
Reading this thread has made me both happy and sad... It's interesting to see what other people have been through and it felt only right that I share a little also :)
One
I know many people but have only a handful of real-life friends. I have always been somewhat of a loner and I am happy spending time in my own company but would go to the ends of the earth for the few people I am lucky enough to have as true friends
Two
I don't believe in god. I never lost my way or fell off any type of religious path, I just don't believe, and I'm happy with that
Three
I resent my mother for not being more supportive during two of the biggest issues I've ever had to deal . She does not know I resent her
Four
I have been pregnant three times and have two children. It took me years to get through the loss of my first and I rationalize it now by telling myself that had the first been born, the children I have would not be here
Five
I haven't been intimate with anyone since my son was born. I no longer count his age in months so it's been quite a while and now I'm scared that if anyone shows me any physical affection, I'll push them away as I am not used to being touched by anyone other than myself
Six
I recently came through an extremely dark period of postpartum depression. It cleared so suddenly it was like someone had turned on the light. Sometimes I wish they'd used a higher wattage bulb
Seven
I would love to spend a day with David Attenborough
Eight
I have been a yo-yo dieter for nearly 20 years and have an unhealthy relationship with food
Nine
I have been breast-feeding, pregnant or doing both together since 2003
Ten
I am painfully shy but in recent years have forced myself to be more assertive and I am able to put on a confident front when I meet new people. I am usually going to pieces inside
Eleven
I love reading erotica, watching porn and, with the right people, talking about it, finding out what makes other people tick, exploring new ideas, trying to discover my own limits of what I'd consider appealing or not. Pixies is a safe place to do that for the time being, although I will hopefully find someone IRL to share and discover with at some point in the future
Twelve
I procrastinate a lot
Oops that was more than ten :p

Ten things about me.
1. I have never ridden a bicycle and don't intend to.
2. I have never learnt to swim.
3. I have social anxiety and panic if people watch me do almost anything.
4. I have given consent for both my daughter's father and my own dad to receive tracheostomies. I also had a brief relationship with a guy who had a tracheostomy scar.
5. I was underweight at 19 but been overweight for the last 20 years.
6. My younger brother died of cancer related illness just before his 18th birthday. I named my daughter after him but changed the spelling to look feminine on paper.
7. I panicked and crashed into 7 parked cars, one week after getting my driver's licence.
8. Lies distress me greatly.
9. My first de facto partner is bipolar. I didn't find this out until 8 years after we separated. My daughter's father has multiiple personalities. I worked this out during our relationship but it wasn't confirmed until about 8 months after we separated.
10. Sex is one of the rare things that I have NO hang ups about.
