View Full Version : Can I get some positive vibes?

And no, I don't mean sex toys :p
I'm talking good luck vibes, prayers, good thoughts, well wishes :D
After months of pinching pennies, budgeting and re-budgeting, and agonizing over the decision, I've decided to cut back to part-time hours at work.
This is something I've been wanting to do ever since having my son....but that I never thought we could afford to do in a million years, especially with hubby still with a year and a half in school (thankfully being paid for through a government grant). But, he's been so encouraging and supportive and has been working like a mad man this summer so that we can have some money put away to help us through the school year (God, I love that man).
So, this afternoon I meet with my supervisor and workforce analyst to hopefully finalize things. If all goes well, I'll keep the overnight hours I love but with minimal hours to keep my benefits (Blue Cross, RRSP's, life insurance, etc), starting probably mid-August.
I'm so utterly terrified and excited at the same time :spin:

NaughtyAngel~ I know how you feel and how scary it is. Sending you vibes of reassurance and frugality :p This is my penny pinching summer...I suppose next one will be as well, but growing kids is infinitely more rewarding than growing wallets. I'm glad you have been able to find a way to do things the way you want to. ((hugs))

Naughtyangel Dear,
Congratulations! Yes! Good for you! You are doing the right thing! This will work! You go girl!!!!!!!
Perhaps the only mistake we ever make is to not do what we want to do, providing, of course, what we behave within an acceptable boundary of morality and ethics. The greatest regrets are over what we did not do in life, the dreams we did not make come true, our desires unfulfilled, decisions left undone due to fear.
You and your hubby appear very practical and this move you guys are making has been well thought out. You have already set things in motion. All that remains is to walk through it.
May good vibes keep coming your way:

It's going to be an awesome summer, I bet!
My friend is doing the same thing except she decided to start her own business, too. :D Some people just can't relax, I guess.

Naughtyangel, I was able to be an at-home mom while raising my 6 kids, and I firmly believe it was the right thing for me to do. My philosophy was "why pay someone else to fuck up my kids when I can stay home and fuck them up for free?"
All kidding aside, I think that AS LONG AS you have a marketable skill (in the event of what-ifs), you should follow your heart and stay home with your child for as long as you possibly can. This is time you can never get back with him. Way to go, Mom!!

I think the penny-pinching now in terms of material things and doing without the frills, will give you so much more in the end. You'll have all those priceless moments and wonderful memories with your son. Enjoy every minute because they grow up so fast!!
Good luck and have fun! :) :)
PS: Just an added thought from my own life.......
I still don't have curtains on all my windows, my furniture is a mix-n-match collection of other peoples cast offs, etc, etc. But my high school senior, who's been reminiscing, thanked me last week for being at every school function, baking for class parties, and going on almost every field trip. Of course I didn't bother to say I had as much fun as the kids!! One of a few perks of being a stay-at-home Mom. :)

This will be good for you and your family. We worked at home while they grew up and was able to attend all their games and plays and were active parents at all their activities.
Our youngest graduates saturday night and wifey and i won't know what to do with all our free time!
An old quote: Nobody's final words were.... "I wish I spent more time at the office!"
Open your arms NA........... Vibes comin at ya **************

Not got to this thread because of all things, I was too busy working :)
You have all my best wishes, you really cannot give your children anything more precious than your time. Material things can be bought later. I very heartily support the decision you and your hubby have made.
