Mouse? Mice? Meese's? Uh...

I thought my puter was taking a shit! Turns out my mouse was screwing everything up. Pages jumped...kept getting kicked offline...pages froze...etc.

Anyway...I had one of those mouse's (mice? meese's) with the thumb roller ball. You didn't have to move the whole mouse, just the ball. I had my "back" and "forward" buttons on my mouse to the left and right of my "left click" and "right click" buttons. It was very convenient! Now I'm using the one that came with the puter and I have to manually move the mouse to move the cursor.

I looked for a comparable replacement and I didn't see anything like what I had. Dunno if they quit making them or what. However, I did only check one store!

What's out there now? Anything for lazy, not-very-coordinated peeps who like to leave the mouse on it's pad and roll a ball to peruse a site/thread? What's the faves and latest crazes?

I am totally with you on the advantages of the ball over the conventional mouse. I do a lot of CAD drawing and the work surface is always cluttered with catalogs, reference drawings, actual parts, calipers, etc. Real estate on my desk is too valuable to give up a square foot to a rodent. ;)

We had a thread (that I can’t locate right now) about ‘meeses & marbles’ where I related my disgust in myself for waiting so long to spend the couple extra $ for the Microsoft Trackball Explorer (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B00005853Z/ref=dp_nav_1/002-3435965-1878452?%5Fencoding=UTF8&n=172282&s=electronics). As long as you’re right handed and not a super-gamer, it’s hard to beat.

I have the Logitech Trackman Marble on one of my computers and it is great.

I hated those roller-ball mouses. Don't know how you ever got used to using that.

I love the mouse we have at home. it's wireless and it has little buttons on it so that you can not only click normally, but also to move forward and backward a page. :] I don't know, I'm easily impressed.

You might try uninstalling your mouse driver, then re-installing before you buy another mouse.Just a suggestion.
I haven't tried a trackball,but PF's reasoning seems to make sense to me...maybe I will.

Lixy & I are about the same age, so she oughta remember the cartoon line, "I hate those mieces to pieces!"

At this moment, I'm using an older model Logictech Trackman Marble...it is despised by everyone else in the family, but it's just the ticket for my carpal tunnel, not to mention as PF said, 1 square foot of real estate is much too precious for my little desk/cabinet I'm working with...since the Trackman was given to me by someone, I have no idea what it would cost new, but it may be time to look into a replacement...the left click button seems to be responding to every other click, I may have to install the old-school mouse that came with the puter to find out if it's really the prob here...

Now, if I can just find a comfy seat that get me down to the right level w/o breakin' my achin' back, I might be set...

Thank you for the links and for naming the mouse (meese, mice????). Of course I remember the expression "meese's to pieces" but can't recall who said it. Wasn't the Tom and Jerry cartoon, was it?

I'm actually afraid of this "basic" mouse I'm using now. Can't get used to less buttons and I keep clicking things I don't want. The whacky mouse with the marble ball has a lot of miles on it so we'll prolly just get a new one.

If memory serves me right (& it rarely does these days), it was Pixie, dixie, I think maybe a 3rd meese named Trixie, & Mr. Jinx, the cat...& the Tom & Jerry association was not far off, since the cartoon was part of Hanna-Barberra's first foray into producing their own cartoons...H-B, or course, created Tom & Jerry before they were fired by MGM, & the characters all reflected their distinct artistic style...

AHH yes!!

Mr. Jinx the cat. Trixie came along as the cartoon was coming to it's end, if MY memory serves me correctly.
