Cute little feller (if snakes can be called "cute"). About three feet long, he spent most of his time hiding in a tree until we left him alone enough to slither away from all the gaping people.

PF,
2 metres long is the size of a medium football player.
The bug was maybe 800-900 millimetres ( perhaps 3 feet).
And here I thought it was only about 85 centimeters long. :hair:

Now you know why it was so anxious to slither away. It spends it's whole day trying to hold down the insect and mouse populations and look at the thanks it gets. :(

There were actually two raccoons waddling across the open field area, but this one just happened to be in front of the camera when I got the picture of the doe. Really thought the picture would be blurred, but it came out pretty good. Saw eight deer on my walk and approached one within maybe 30 or 40 feet of her before she bolted back into the woods. Beautiful animals.

Here's a few pics from my life in the past few weeks!
First, one day on the dig, we were out in the evening for a professional photo shoot - and I tell you, they couldn't have planned it for a better day... At the time of that photo, both rainbows were complete and stretching across the sky.
The next two are from Wilderness and I's camping trip from a couple days ago! The first photo is the waterfall near where we were camped. The other photo is of the inside of the cave we went into! Notice the white sand underwater...

This one's not so much to show off my photog skills (good thing, too), but to show off my latest woodcrafting project. It's a purpose-built corner cabinet for our tv & related items I built to fit exactly in this corner of our den. The project began nearly two years ago, after the demolition of our leaning chimney & install of a wall, patio doors & patio cover in its place. It was built just outside under the carport (the only place I had room to work on such a monster), leading to many complaints from mrs zoid about her lack of space to park her cruiser, & one semi-anonymous letter from the neighborhood assn about the mess on our property  I modified some plans from Norm (New Yankee Workshop) to suit my own needs, & I must confess it's not completely done yet...still need knobs for the doors & some baseboard trim at the base, but it's close enough to finished that I can sit back & bask in the glow for a little while...

NP themi01, I'm not ashamed to say I've spent a goodly portion of my life working my wood :sperm: seriousness aside, I've made many small projects before such as spinners & wooden boxes, but apart from some crude shelf units, this was my first ever major free-standing real furniture project. My contractor/guitar-player buddy has already expressed his admiration for the mitered corners; I say they're all the more amazing in that I've never mitered a corner before in my life!

:hippy: Lava Lite :hippy: I was wondering who would be the 1st to notice that...
or maybe who would be the 1st one rude enough to rag my ass about it
The Lava Lamp was mrs zoid's idea...I got rid of my strobe/black light years ago (& I've been kicking my own ass for it ever since)
And just to prove how things always come around in cycles, #2 son insisted on having one of his own after seeing his mom's....
Now don't you wish you had Norm's "....after we finish here at the micrometer set, central vacuum chip/dust collector system, plainer, (and before going to the flame suppression, static neutralized finishing room) we'll take this to the laser-aligning dovetail joiner and then to the self-centering biscuit cutter to do the next operation......", or is that why it took you more than two days to do your project? ;) EXACT-A-MONDO!!!
Actually, I find the most disturbing thing about NYWS is not that he has all the great expensive tools (can you say product placement?), but how un-naturally CLEAN Norm's shop is...I wouldn't know how to work in an environment where I don't have to watch every step, or worry that my pounding one item on the bench might cause another object to crash to the floor...
And wait Zoid you never mitered a corner before ? even by eye ? Never had a reason to...I've done nearly all kinds of other joinery but as I said, I never did a furniture type project or trimmed out a door/window myself...
But I do know that mitering a corner by eye means you'll be doing it again real soon...

The first squirrel pic is slightly blurry, but I was using the zoom at full stretch (10.7x) with no tripod so in that respect I guess it's not too bad as a snapshot pic. Here's our lovely visitor laying on the eggs she laid yesterday.
The first two show how effective her coloring is in helping her to hide. The third picture outlines her in red so she's easier to see.

No we don't. We heard her when she was laying but didn't try to see until afterwards and she was sitting on the eggs then. I'm anxious for when they hatch to see how many. The mama duck seems so serene on her nest.

That's not serenity, that's relief of knowing she doesn't have to crap out another egg.

My dad sent me a picture this morning of a mama duck with 12(!) ducklings following her across our backyard! Unfortunately, while my dad's an awesome photographer with a 35mm camera, digital cameras he isn't so talented at (which isn't helped by the fact that his digital camera is not very good!), so you'll have to imagine the pic! :D
Hopefully dicksbro will get us some good pics of cute ducklings soon!

Our lady duck was off her nest early this morning and I got a peek (from a distance) at the eggs. Appears like there are 13 in the nest.
If they all hatch, she's going to be one busy mama! Whew!
Here are a some that I recently shot at the botanical gardens. I love it out there!

Nice pictures, Tess. Mrs.and I are thinking one of these days, soon, we'll have to visit Peoria's botanical gardens and the Peoria zoo with its multi-million (25 if I recall right) dollar African exhibits! When we get out there, we'll try to snap some pictures to share.

Scientists have found evidence of feather anchorage points on a number of therapod bones, so perhaps. Many call birds the dinosaurs amongst us.

Brilliant simplicity! ......... But, I don't like the break system. If that accelerator were dropped toward the lead the very sudden stop would also look like a cartoon.:yikes: Perhaps a slot guide at the top of the deck?

From everything I've ever been told of dinosaurs it more or less depended on the situation that some of the dinosaurs were in to determine what they evolved into. I believe there was an episode of Bill Nye the Science guy where he stated that both the cow and dolphin have a common ancestor if you follow their gene sequences back far enough. Then you have alligators/crocodiles which haven't changed according to scientists for something like 1,000 years (could be wrong on this just going from memory). I believe sharks also fall into a similar category as your larger lizards.

Today my wife had us drive over to Robert Allerton Park southwest of Champaign, Illionis. The park is a 5,000 acre estate donated to the University of Illinois by Robert Allerton. Includes his 50 room mansion, gardens, statuary, forest trails and wonderful farmland that the UofI Ag Department takes care of.
The peonies were in bloom and Allerton has a wonderful flower garden. Attacted are just five pictures of the flowers out of the dozens of varieties they have.
Part of our continuing to celebrate our 50th "Meeting Anniversary" (yesterday). :)

I'd feel honored if she would. When she's done, take a picture and post for us if that's okay with her.
M would have loved Allerton and seeing the thousands upon thousands of flowers in bloom, not to mention the hundreds of other non floral subjects worth painting.

Here's just a very few pictures from our delayed anniversary get-away trip to Robert Allerton Park southwest of Champaign, Illinois. We spent two nights at the guest house (a seven bedroom home) and were there from 6-29 until 7-1. Had a great time. We love Allerton Park, a 5,000 acre estate donated to the University of Illinois.
The first picture is of the Allerton's 50-room mansion taken across from his private lake; next is the guest house we stayed at. Third is a picture of a den with the painting of Robert Allerton (age 24) on the wall. Fourth is one of the many beautiful flowers growing on the grounds and the fifth is of the Allerton's stable.

Here's a few more from Allerton Park that I hope you'll enjoy.
First, another beautiful flower; then, the statue of the "Sun Singer" which measures 35-40' from the bottom of the base it rests on; and, a vase of flowers that one of the Allerton directors gave us for our anniversary. Over that past couple of years we've made good friends with her and she was thoughtful enough to do that. :)
We took between 300 and 400 pictures, so these few give only a small idea of the beauty of this estate. This could be a potential PAGAN site some day. ;)

Will daddy or mummy get hungry?
If they are good mummy and daddy angels they look after the fry....this will be the 1st time so far that they havent got hungry

I had one angel fish that would lay eggs, but no male for her to mate with. My mom and I got her when she was very small, but once she got full size my mom had to get rid of her. She became aggressive to the other smaller fish. I think she got like 10-15 dollars for her. Original price was like 1.50.

Yeh, I recall that angels can be great caregivers when their natural instincts take over, but sort of rare in captivity. Yours seem to have gotten past the hard part by not eating the eggs, so should do well. How long before the fry are ready to go solo?
Livebearers like guppies & mollies, OTOH, have no maternal instincts at all, & will gobble up babies like popcorn, if they can't hide first.
Lord Snow...people often forget that angels are cichlids, and pretty well all cichlids are territorial and aggressive to some degree. Angel will eat anything small enough to go into their mouths, housing them with smaller fish is not so bad when they are small but when they mature, not a good idea :)
Neige....they are an awesome fish...very much have character.
Scotz....yep, as they gain experience with spawning they tend to get it right eventually. My pair above though, not really their fault, this is the 1st time they have been in a tank on their own, so they are a lot more relaxed. Spawning successfully in a community tank just isnt going to happen.
Most livebearers are fry eaters definately *L* Endler Livebearers though do not eat their fry, they just plain ignore them once they are born.

Yeah, I did a lot of research on my Oscar. He was cool. I fed him live gold fish. I didn't do a whole lot of reading up on my angel though. She was fun to have though. I could stand at one end of the tank with her on the other end and call and she would swim right over.
