Jeane Kirkpatrick, the first female U.S. ambassador to UN, died yesterday. She was 80 years old.
She served at the UN from 1981 to 1985, and was later a member of President Reagan's cabinet. Although she began her public life as a Democrat, Mrs Kirkpatrick became foreign policy adviser to Ronald Reagan during his 1980 presidential campaign
Before entering politics, Dr Kirkpatrick was a professor of political science at Georgetown University.
