4 hours, just drove it on Tuesday...that included a stop for gas. And we drove off the ocean too, (we were on a ferry)

Nearest are the Ozarks which would be three hours or so. Because they only rise to 1500 to 2000 feet, some might question the term "mountain," but that's what they're called. :)

How far are you from any large factories (more than 1K employees at the site)?

More than 1,000? Hmmm...there are a couple of factories nearby that have in the 400-500 range, but to get to 1,000 you'd have to drive at least an hour, more likely an hour and a half.

Usually just socks.

I'm from Kentucky. :D Actually (and my sister STILL teases me about this), for most of my life I didn't like to wear socks. I had this "cotton thing." Pantyhose or knee highs or nylons were fine. Socks were not. My grandmother used to get soooooo upset with me. I told her it's because of all of those times, when I was about 5 or 6, when my shoes would "eat" my socks and it scarred me for life. :D Short answer is, no, I don't usually wear socks at home, although I'm more likely to now than when I was younger, and the shoes are put beside the door from just about the moment I walk in.
