Quit 7 1/2 years ago Christmas Eve. Had my last cigarette that morning and none since ... after maybe 30-35 years of smoking. I'd had a bit of a scare a month or so before thinking maybe I'd had a heart attack. Ended up I hadn't, but decided then to try and quit. Asked our family doc and prescribed Wellbuton for me to take. Took two a day and continued to smoke (finishing up what I had left of a carton). Ran out on Christmas Eve. Continued taking one Wellbuton a day for a week or two after I quit ... then nothing. Never had withdrawals or anything else. Made it seem easy.
In fairness, I've talked to others that said they weren't that successful, and so, I feel rather lucky that for me ... it worked. :) |
We do too DB.

I quit in 90 so that I could have a healthy baby. I've had relapses during times of extraordinary stress but it has only been a couple times, and usually to go with mass quantities of alcohol :p

See now, I think girls smoking cigars is hot too. Vanessa Williams had one on the red carpet at some awards show several years ago - it was smoking (hahaha, pun intended) But cigars don't bother me as much as cigerettes. I kind of like the smell, even though i've never smoked one. P.S. 200 posts, beeyotches! :jump: :line:  |

I do enjoy the occasional cigar but that is all.

I never even tried cigarettes. Have had a few cigars but the last one was 8 years ago. Mrs. Sama doesn't like them and I didn't enjoy it enough to continue.
|
I smoke now and don't plan on stopping unless I am forced to by a lung removal or one of my little ones asks me to.
For all of you that have quit send your last packs to me so I can save some cash! LOL! |

I'm the same way. Which is likely to be soon since a friend just brought me back some cubans. ummm...no...I mean...some perfectly legal cigars not at all from cuba. That he certainly didn't bring back from china with bootlegged dvds and a pair of nunchucks. How the hell he got through customs is anybody's guess. |
Cobalt and I are quitting. I have a feeling that it is going to be easier for him than me because I am so dependent on that quick calm I get when I first light up. I am worried because I really get bitchy and weepy - almost like I am going thru severe PMS when I quit. I have tried most everything as an aid to quiting - patches, inhalers, pills, gum - without luck. I have never tried cold turkey because mentally I feel so dependent on that nicotine and I am leary of the withdrawls. But, since the other stuff didn't really help me, I think that cold turkey is going to be what I have to do.
Any suggestions as to how to get over the "waves of destruction" that I know will happen? Should I warn my children? Is it good that Cobalt and I are going to quit at the same time? All I know is that I am sick of being "chained" to the damn things, and they are way to expensive anymore... |
((((Chey)))) and ((((Cobalt)))) ~~ I have no advise, just well wishes
|
Chey, mayhaps replace the habit with something that is as close to as calming as the puff was. I became a gum chewer and use that in times of high stress.
|
I know that a lot of people have used gum/hard candy as a backup. I have never really been a gum chewer but I think I will try that and ONLY pop a piece in my mouth when I feel the need to have a cig. It is worth a try! Thanks ((((( osuche ))))) and (((((Lil)))))
