How many do you remember? Well I may be younger than some but
1. Candy cigarettes. ahh espcially the ones that were really powdered so you could blow smoke still available but now are called sticks
2. Wax coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water inside. - Nicklnips and they are still out too only nw they cost like $0.50 for 4 or 5 of them
3. Soda pop machines that dispensed glass bottles. They had one at my fave rollerink which still has wooden floors btw glass always got the pop colder than plastic
4. Coffee shops with tableside juke boxes. They still have some in a couple resturants out her although more are becoming broken and unfixable
5. Blackjack, Clove and Teaberry chewing gum. my fave is teaberry!! and they still bring it out every 3 to 5 years
6. Home milk delivery in glass bottles, with cardboard stoppers. You can actually still get milk from a dairy out here in glass bottles
13. Howdy. alright i may be too young for the original airing but I was in the peanut gallery for the reruns
14. 45-RPM Records. - I still have a ton of them now I just need a new record player.... has anyone noticed how much they cost now????????
17. Metal ice cube trays-with levers. - lol my Grandma still uses them and still calls the refrigerator a Frigidaire
21. Roller skate keys. wow don't they still have those? lol must be too long since I was on skates
23. Drive ins. damn I miss those you can hardly even tell where the old ones were now anybody else see The Littlest Whorehouse in Texas on bigscreen OMG talk about big boobs lmao
24. Studebakers. - only the restored ones
28. Tinkertoys. they are still around only cost too much now
29. The Erector Set. we used to build amazing things with my brothers set they weren't for girls ya know lol
31. Lincoln Logs. forts for the gi joes
34. Penny candy. nothing better than getting a dime from your grandma and running up to the corner store to gorge on penny candy :)
Well I think at 16 is not too bad :D

Had some doubts as to how this would be received...certainly didn't expect to stir up so many memories...or that so many "kids" would jump in on this... ;)

Vampeyes---Did you know that Howdy had a twin brother named
Double. My skates always fell off!Even at a young age;I thought in
a mechanical way.In my mind;if you turned the key;you loosened
;the tension;on the wheels;and the skates went faster! Irish

Damn Scotz, I remember 28 of these things... I'm not including the reel to reel because I never used one, I just knew about them. Me and my cousin were always carting around a little cassette tape recorder and making up stories and fake radio programs on it. I also know what a Studebaker is, but they are certainly before my time. I only included things that I had or used or was very familiar with.

Oh, and I have a big scar from being double dog dared as a teen...

Irish 06-26-2002 01:29 PM

Aquaman43---One of the cars; that my wifes father had; when I was dating her;was a Studebaker stationwagon.Yes;they had cars in those days;not just horsedrawn buggies! Irish

I have fond memories of some of those things because my grandmother was a pack rat. Any of the ladies remember the real china tea sets for the little girls. Still have mine that was passed down since like 1875 or something like that.

Saddaddy 06-27-2002 08:04 PM

I remember 28 of those..Does this mean WE are all OLD Timers??

I do know Howdy had a female cousin named Heidi.....

Sugarsprinkles 06-28-2002 07:09 AM

DAMN Scotz!!!! I really didn't need to feel any older than I already do!! I'm already the oldest woman on the site.......hell, if it weren't for Irish, I'd be the oldest.......PERSON!! ROFL :D:D So far the only person who remembers more than I do is Scarecrow.
I can remember everything but two things. The Fort Apache play set, but I guess, considering I'm a girl and had no brothers I can be excused on that one. And I don't remember gas ever being that cheap. The cheapest I can recall was during one of Detroit's famous gasoline price wars in the '60s sometime and it was 13.9 cents per gallon.

Since the car we had was a clunker, my mother used to use "bulk oil" for it...10 cents a quart. Came in glass bottles with tops like funnels. It was oil that was drained from other cars when the garage would do an oil change.

Oh hell, how about when you went to the "Service Station" and actually got service??? They'd pump the gas for you, ask if you wanted your oil and water checked, and wash your windshield...all when gas was below .35 per gallon!!!

How about carry out coffe in returnable glass bottles with paper plug/caps??
Cars that didn't come with turn signals...and still had "choke" knobs you had to adjust just right or the car wouldn't start??

OH HELL.....I'm feeling too damn old here...I'm gonna go find a cave to crawl in and wallow in some self pity. Any other "old folks" care to join me?

Irish 06-28-2002 08:47 AM

Sugarsprinkles---My old girlfriend;had an old Plymouth(58-59?)that used more oil than gas.We used to put that"bulk oil"in it;
when we stopped for oil&sometimes gas.I totalled that car when I
was driving;and she was sitting in my lap;and playing with my dick
Irish
P.S.(mission almost impossible)Getting your dick back in your pants;before the cops get there!

Sugarsprinkles 06-28-2002 08:59 AM

Irish....

We had a '57 Ford Fairlane...every time we got in it was $2.00 of gas and 2 qts. of oil....

And I never did anything quite so.......ahhhh...Interesting in it as you...............:D :D :D

Oldfart 06-28-2002 12:11 PM

Sprinkles, I have a manual choke on my Mitsubishi van.

Automatic chokes are trouble in the tropics.

I remember 14, and a lot of the ones I don't are culturally

North American, not Aussie. I'll PM GG with a better list of Aussie.

"Brylcream, a little dob'll do you.

Then you'll find, the girls'll all pursue you."

Jingle time.

David 06-28-2002 12:47 PM

Well Scotz I can remember them all!! So I guess I am up there in age with Irish and Sugarsprinkles!! LOL How about these?
- Horse drawn carriage that brought you blocks of ice.
- Ice box was your refrigerator.
- Horse drawn carriage that brought you your milk.
- Horse drawn carriage that brought you your bread.
OK, that is enough! Now I am not old - only 58, however can remember a lot of "fun" things from the late 40's and earlier 50's.

Thanks for the memories!!

Irish 06-28-2002 01:00 PM

David---I'm 58 also.Now;we'll have to find out;the age;of Old Fart!
His profile says;June 16 but doesn't give the year.I always got the impression;that he was right up there;but some people(my
wife&females in general)are very sensitive;on that subject.I hate
stereotypes;but;most men don't seem to give a shit! Irish

Irish 06-28-2002 01:05 PM

Sugarsprinkles---Know what she got after the Plymouth?A '57
Ford Fairlane;with a 312cu. engine.I was 17.I enlisted in the armed forces before court. Irish
P.S.Make that a 4? Plymouth!
