Hey y'all.... I am originally from Southern Calif. But not I'm a Dallasite. I have been here since '95.... I love it here! :)

BlueSwede 08-30-2003 08:46 PM

I'm hoping you Texans can clue me in. My daughter (who is black-white but looks Hispanic) and her boyfriend (who is white) may be moving to Amarillo this fall. They're young (18 and 24), and both up to now have lived w/their parents. What is Amarillo like? Any areas they should stay away from? Any areas that would be better than others for them to look for an apartment? Do you think they will be given a hard time there being an interracial couple? I have absolutely no idea what it's like there or what the size of the city is. Anything you could tell me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello everyone,I also live in Houston and I am a self employed mechanic for the last 33 years, before that I visited the only war that the United States ever lost, but texas has always been my home base that I came back to.quisath, that was quite a narritive that you gave about texas, sure you arent in charge of the Tourist Beareu? I remember when I first went to Germany and France and people found out that I was from Texas, they wanted to know if all of us carried six guns and rode horses like they saw on the movies. When I laughed and told them no, that we had cars and big cities like Paris and Berlin, they wouldnt believe because in the movies we rode horses and had gunfights everyday. Now how can any other state beat that, yup everyone knows about Texas.:D

paprclphd 10-04-2003 10:48 AM

I am from Texas, too. Just North of Austin. There is truly no place like Texas!

Everyone have a great weekend!

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with the great state of TEXAS in the USA, But

Just so you are well aware of global situations, I live approximatly 3 hours drive from Texas, and it is the biggest hole in the ground you will ever have the disspleasure of seeing, most excitment that has happened in Texas in the last 50 or so years was when the "Dallas Gift Shop" burnt to the ground

(Not to be confused with Texas USA.)

Doesn't sound much different than the one we have here. lol;)

Actually we are all a bit envious of the pride our Texas brothers have in their state. There’s no question that they have a self-esteem and attitude that DOES make them stand out from the rest of us. That way of being has as many advantages as irritations to us outsiders. Their history HAS been a hard fought one, from their coming into existence to Dallas 63. You can overcome a lot and do a lot of great things starting with just a united good attitude.

(makes you wonder what they’d be like if they were in a good state) LMAO;)

Another Texan here

While I no longer live there, I was born there and spent the better part of my life there off and on. I do often go to Houston, for different reasons. I try to spend the night there when I go as the drive back to my present home is a long one. Would love to have a drink with any member wishing to, so if you want to just PM me......but before you do know that I'm a bit long of tooth, in age that is. But in my opinion age is only a number, I am healthy and active. So there!

denny 11-18-2003 12:05 AM

Bilbo, I must admit you had me confused till the end of your posting. I used to live in such a place, a confused place, that is. It was called California, Maryland. Now I live in another California. But what did this have to do with Texas. Oh yeah, my next door neighbors are moving to San Antonio and we will miss them greatly! Hope this confused you as well.

CunningLinguist 12-03-2003 11:16 AM

I am also new around here and I live near Beaumont.

Lilith 12-03-2003 11:54 AM

Hey Cunning Linguist! I am a Floridian but lived in SanAntonio for a spell. I have a child who was born there and is soooooo proud to be a Texan, he sleeps with the Texas flag hanging behind his bed.
