I almost always stay friends...with one exception that was more his choice than mine. I generally date -- or even have casual flings with -- people I like. I don't stop liking them when we drift apart.

Do you like to travel?

Yeah, to a certain extent but I don't do it all that often. I guess I'm sort of a home body.

When was the last time you were in a foreign country?

Well, I was in Canada about 2 months ago. I was in Switzerland about 18 months ago


When was the last time you slept past noon?

Oh man, I'm not sure. I do know that after a surgery I had about a year ago that I slept until around 3pm the next day but that had a lot to do with the drugs.

When was the last time you got a call from a telemarketer?

About 2 weeks ago -- but they're never for me, always for the past owner of the number. We make ours unlisted


What is your least favorite housework chore?

Doing the dishes. I always had dishwashers in all the apartments I'd lived in before I moved here. I find I use paper plates whenever I can. :D

What was the first car you learned to drive? Was it an automatic or a stick shift?

A stick shift. It was a Ford Bronco with manual shift and no power steering. I flunked parallel parking the first time!


If you could have any car...would would you drive?

I've always wanted a Corvette, any year would be perfectly fine with me. :D

Nope...I love to write, but I have no time


Would you ever consider going back to school?

Only for foreign language studies, in which a good class is essential for the basics.

Do you prefer the ocean or a lake?

Never spent a whole lot of time around either but I'll take lakes because when I was a child my grandpa took me fishing in Minnesota every summer.

Yes, several. Most recently I went to Yosemite and Big Sur


What are your hobbies?

Hmmm, not really any hobbies that I'm overly addicted to. I've got a very valuable baseball card collection but that was all accumulated when I was a kid. I'm just sort of a sports junkie nowadays, not that that's a hobby.

When was the last time you had to be in a hospital?

Gosh, maybe 4 years ago for bypass surgery. Knock on wood, when the cardiologist checked me in the spring ... everything's still A-OK (Haven't heard that expression in a while.)

When was the last time you met someone who became a good friend?

About 4 months ago and they are terrific!

I think it was our wedding anniversary which would be last June.

Back in July. I was charged $100 for putting trash the size of a finished takeout Chinese dinner — which was exactly what it was — into the corner trashcan just because I walked out of my apartment with it being seen and apparently that's a no-no and I should've waited for trash day to toss it out "legally." Nevermind that everyone does this shit, the streets are still dirty with refuse from storefronts dumping their crap amongst other tossed-away trash and I was only giving a hoot. I can understand if I was tossing out a Santa-sized garbage bag, but they were just trying to make quotas. What a gyp.

Would you stand in a line to get inside a particular restaurant/wait long for tables, or would you skip it and look for alternate restaurants?

Usually I'll just try and find someplace else but if I've really got it stuck in my head that I absolutely have to eat at the place I'll wait in line.

What's your favorite meal of the day?

Dinner -- it's usually my largest and tastiest. I often skip lunch or have something small

Yep. I have a pair of black spandex workout pants from the Gap and a black cotton/spandex (thin) sweater I bought in Sao Paulo -- my most comfy clothes


Do you like to wear sexy underwear?

Not one ... but I love earth colors (or colours :) ). My wife likes me to wear blue.

What's your favorite snack food?

Give me anything with some chocolate milk and I'm a happy camper.

If time travel was possible to what time/place would you travel first?

I always thought it'd be fun to see either ancient Egypt or ancient Greece. :)

Problem would be fitting in. :(

Last night...Laundry room door opens opposite of the dryer door. Both doors were open. The fact registered after I grabbed the laundry room door to firmly shut it. Jammed my wrist between the two. You know what's happening after you've set it in motion and don't even have time to say.."Oh s**t!"

What is the most fascinating book you have read?

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Read it when I was a fresh. or soph. in HS and was absolutely amazed that racism could exist. Growing up in such a small town that was entirely white, I'd never been exposed to anything like that before.

Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. I find her philosophy that we're each in charge of our lifes -- complete captians of the ship of destiny -- very empowering. Plus, I just love Ayn Rand.


Where do you go to get your daily dose of local and national news?

Local usually from the Cedar Rapids ABC affilitate. National from reading newspapers online. I usually start with the Washington Post and wind my way through the country until I get to the Orange County Register. Granted, that's usually only a couple of times a week though.

What's the first thing you'd purchase if you won the Powerball?

I'd pay off my house -- that would take most of the $$

I'd fly out to California to see my mom and then buy her a house wherever she wanted. Maybe I'd stop by and see you too. ;)

Do you ever just wish that you lived during another time in history?

I entertain the notion in a romantic sense, but the reality of it would most likely be extremely difficult and inconvenient if I chose an era without indoor plumbing.

What's your fast food of choice and the place you go to get it?

I really like burritos -- typically veggie or chicken ones with the hottest salsa available, and with black beans. Chipotle is my fave location.

Do you have a signature move in bed?

Yes I do, but I won't give up my secrets online. I can tell you, however, that it doesn't involve humping my dog's pillow. ;)
