It was the shittiest trip I've ever been on! :D:D:p |
The waste water treatment plant?
|
*ding*ding*ding*
We have a winner!!!! Yes!!! I spent the afternoon at the sewage treatment plant! Aside from the lovely aroma I also found out that the city has knowingly supplied my neighborhood with contaminated water for the past 8 years. We have called and asked for the past 8 years. They repeatedly told us it was safe. I spoke with the supervisor yesterday and was told the city is now admitting guilt and that when the water enters my house and is red or smells like chlorine or sulphur it is unsafe for consumption. We have asked for 8 years. I know of at least 6 women on my block who have miscarried over the past 8 years. Was told it is gonna be fixed by August...... |
Holy shit! Are you the next Erin Brockavitch?!?!? Why would they give people the runaround on this?
|
It's very expensive to fix and they denied it for so long. I was livid but kept my shit together.
|
IAKG, I am impressed with how you zeroed in on that. I was going to guess a hardware store.
Okay, Lilith, now the real question ... you didn't take home any souvenirs, did you? :D :D |
DB, that's why they keep me around at work. It's that perceptive nature. :D
It's amazing what people think they can get away with. |
Damn
And I had guessed the....... |
lets try one more the batcave?
|
Aahhhhhhhhh
Oh my God!! Our Lilith (aka Whip Crackin' Bitch ) taking young children to see the shittiest place around. Something wrong with this picture? Day yummmmmm !!!! Don |
don~ I was not the teacher..........I was the student:p Regardless let me assure you stink is stink:o
|
Damn Lilith! Ain't that the shit!? I've heard of this miscarriage thing before.......but round here it is with the people living so close to the electricity lines that run through the valley! And to this day, the officials deny any harm is being done. How can it be safe if you can take a flourescent light and walk close to those lines and they light up? The closer you get , the brighter they get! Uncle Fester would be proud! Women in the immediate area have the highest miscarriage rate around. And now they are looking into the cancer aspect too!
We have our own well for water....and filters and lights galore on it......but I know the smell you are speaking of. Have they said how they will rectify and/or compensate for any long term effects? I mean, you can't put a price on an auto-aborted baby.....but wtf do they plan on doing about the denial and subsequent horrors? Go get um g/f! |
Lixy~ I think it would be impossible to prove any thing, the evidence was destroyed:(
They said they were doing something called "pigging" where they shove foam filters in the fire hydrants and flush the lines. Water pipes are bursting all through the neighborhood, 6 on my street alone. They said that's good cause then they have to come out and clean them and install new ones. They said the water is contaminated by bacteria that is sitting in the pipes in dirt etc stuck in the pipes. They said it was not e.coli but did not say what exactly it is. I am gonna take it to a private lab on it's next flare up. |
Sometimes ya gotta know and then (and I am hoping this isn't the case) when you find out the culprit and the effects.....you kinda wish you didn't know. I wish you the best Lilith! I'm keeping good thoughts that if this problem is now being rectified, that the effects will wear with time and then all will be ok for you and your neighbors! Keep us informed if you can! Luck and good news be yours!

I am/was a professional water consultant. The problems that you have described with your water can be troublesome. The red color in your water is reflective of the iron content. Anything over .3 will start staining and will cause pipes & such to fill up with particles and evenutally clog them up. Water Heaters and appliances as well. |
The sulphur smell is also indicative of high iron content in your water. Did you notice the smell being only on the hot water side or on both cold and hot?
The swimming pool smell in your water is indeed chlorine. In any city water setting, you will have some residual chlorine flowing out of your taps. However, chlorine is highly corosive and in itself poisioness. Chloring levels out of your tap water SHOULD NOT be above .5 (.1 being the lowest residual acceptable) |
I don't know where you live, but there are Federal Guidelines that municipalities must meet in order to provide safe water to residents. Go to the National Sanitation Foundations website (www.nsf.com) and you can get some idea of what the guidelines are.
Another item to keep in mind - with that high degree of iron levels in your water (indicative by the rotten egg smell) there is a chance that Iron Bacteria may be present. While in itself not a health hazard, it is like a carrier to many other items that should not be in your water. Cryptspuridium could be present. This is a know health hazard. |
Giradia is another parasite that could be present in your water if you test for high iron bacteria.
Chlorine will kill certain types of bacteria in a water supply. If you are noticing high chlorine counts, that would mean that the city tests indicated high levels of "something" they would want to kill. |
This is what I would recommend that you do. First of all - lab tests on water is very expensive and can range from $300 to $400 per test. Now that the city is admiting guilt, the EPA should become involved and they shoud do testing. But I wouldn't wait. Call around to various labs and find out how much tests would cost you. Ask for test specifically on
1) iron bacteria 2) nitrates 3) Cryptospridium 4) Giraldia 5) Coliform bacteria these are the 5 troublemakers. |
Another suggestion - if you do not have one already, purchase a pre-filter for your home and place it inside, just where the water enters your house.
Also, and this is very important. Purchase a reverse osmosis drinking water system (or R.O. System). This type of water filtration system will purify your water up to 99.9% pure. It will also filter out the "bad" stuff in the water - items that I have mentioned as well as risidual chlorine. |
