Got me thinking about what pic I'd like to have stolen for me...much to lazy to steal it myself. :p

What pic would you like while I have someone snatching mine? (If you can add a link to the pic it would be great)

I've been following the prononunciations of Munch's name. I grew up prononouncing it as "Munsch" but I've heard two broadcasters from different companies (CBC and CTV) pronounce it as "Munk" (actually, it's almost like "Moonk").

I'd love a Picasso sculpture but if you're stealing something, "Guernica" might be easier.

If I can't have sculpture (my attachment to Rodin's Morning has gotten stronger ever since I wrote that story), I'd have to chose Vermeer's Astronomer, or Burne-Jones's Hope. Mind you, I can fill a book with all the ones I'd take...but those would probably be at the top of it.

I have always loved this painting. Partly I think, because we had a chair just like it in our home when I was a child....

Van Gogh's Starry Night and his Bedroom are another two of my faves. :)

I like the portraits that Van Gogh did of Seine <sp?>, but I'm not the biggest Van Gogh fan on the planet...so how bout something more artsy-fartsy from Monet or something like that?

About stealing famous artist's paintings? Where in the hell could you sell one? Who would buy something so obviously "hot"? Why would someone buy one that is so obviously "hot"? I just don't get the thought process behind this theft! LOL! As you can tell Lil...I've been thinking a lot about it!

I assume they are not sold, exactly. I would think it more likely that someone was paid to steal them.

I love all your choices. Lixy I saw a Monet exhibit this past June and have long loved his work.

Actually, a lot of stollen paintings are successfully ransomed. It's almost expected by the museum that they'll have to pay 5% of it's actual price to get it back. They do always try. Otherwise, it'll wind up in a private collection, never to be seen again.

BiBi, you've got taste exactly like my bf's....that's one of his favorites too!

Someone on the news said often the people who steal such well-known paintings have huge drug debts and are using them as collateral (sp.).

I do enjoy a good Degas.

When it comes to use of light, Georges de La Tour has some great works. (for those of you Disney fans, one of his works is one of the treasures that Ariel has in her cave).

My favorite artist of all time is William Adolphe Bouguereau. The pictures he created are amazing. Here is one called Rest that is in the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Klimt paints like I see, but I am also very fond of Raphael and Botticelli

okay. 2 more pics that I really like. There are some pieces of work that Dali has done that I really enjoy. If you like his work (and happen to be in the Tampa area) there is a Dali museum in St. Pete, Fl that is fantastic. These 2 pieces are there.

The one is just a sketch for a few of his other full paintings. I believe he did 4 variations of the painting. It is the view of Christ on the cross from above. I have a print of this hanging in my bedroom.

The 2nd is called "The discovery of America by Christopher Columbus" and completely blew me away when I saw it. The painting is 10 feet tall. Columbus is almost life sized. There is more detail in this painting than I would care to describe. It's amazing, though.
