Frankly speaking...

Tell me what you put on your weiner. How exactly is a dog properly dressed? What are the perfect toppings? What should it be placed in?

IowaMan 08-18-2007 09:00 AM

I'm probably going to be ridiculed but I am one of "those" people that puts ketchup on a hot dog. Ketchup, spicy mustard, onion and sometimes relish. Oh and celery salt!!! :slurp:

The bun doesn't really matter to me for a hot dog but for a brat I prefer a potato roll.

As for my weiner I usually go with Trojan Magnums but I haven't had reason to buy such "picnic supplies" anytime recently. :boohoo:

Perfect topping on my weiner?

PantyFanatic 08-18-2007 09:14 AM

Now you would have been disappointed if I didn't, wouldn't ya? ;)

As for my hot dogs, if it's not a chili dog from the Hot Dog Inn, it's normally just yellow mustard and onions.

IowaMan 08-18-2007 09:19 AM

Well, I don't know about disappointed but definitely shocked.

And damn, a chili dog does sound great right now!

FallenAngel5 08-18-2007 09:27 AM

I love my hot dogs with ketchup and minced onion. mm... as for the bun, it doesn't matter, bread, bun, whatever holds it all together.

Coastie 08-18-2007 11:24 AM

I keep it simple with my hot dogs ketchup and spicy mustard, occasionally chili.
They have to be bun length hot dogs! hot dogs and hot dog buns are a conspiracy I tell you. It's kinda like men and women.. the hot dogs aren't big enough for the buns, and there aren't enough buns for all the hot dogs.. o.O

osuche 08-18-2007 01:43 PM

catsup, mustard (spicy, preferably), an drelish are my toppings of choice.

scotzoidman 08-18-2007 04:41 PM

For me it's gotta be an Oscar Meyer, I can't handle heavily spiced dogs, & I never liked mustard on anything...so, it's often plain or with a little mayo (I can hear the groans...& I say joke 'em if they can't take a fuck!)...if I'm in the mood to add a little tang, sweet relish tucked down beneath the dog, or yesterday I sliced up a couple of sweet gherkins for the same effect...

And OM has the answer to the Great Hot Dog Bun Conspiracy with what they call Bun-Length dogs...8 dogs in a pack to match the bun pack, & just long enough to see a little weiner peeking out each end (which sounds a little kinky if ya ask me)

themi01 08-18-2007 06:54 PM

steamed hot dog onions some kraut and sometimes chilli

Pita 08-18-2007 08:08 PM

Well, back in the day when my diet allowed for such things as delicious hot dogs mine had to be Oscar Meyer as well. The perfect way to eat it was to butter the hot dog bun and toast it under the broiler until it was golden brown. Then microwave the hot dog until it split wide open. Top it with spicy mustard, onions, and hot dog relish. Man I miss those days!!!!

Of course, if I had some of PF wiener I wouldn't be ruining my diet at all, now would I? :brows:

PantyFanatic 08-18-2007 09:04 PM

Yep :D This thread stirred the taste for a dog so much I drove to the other side of town tonight to get back to the Hot Dog Inn and get my "two up & a bowl" (that's the original chili sauce recipe on a grilled, all-beef skinny wiener, not on an over sized bun, with mustard and chopped onions :p ) and a bowl of chili. :bite:
I didn't have my first one until 1948, but by then the place was established long enough then that I knew it would be around for more.

I'm not a huge hot dog eater, but when it comes to weiners...... well, I just like them eaten, y'know?

I've seen what goes into those buggers.

Not for this Oldfart.

Cheyanne 08-19-2007 08:41 AM

LOL @ Oldfart.... I try not to think about it.

I like mine grilled and slightly burnt rather than boiled. Microwaved isn't too bad. Toppings - depends on what we have and my mood. Sauerkraut, dill relish & Mustard (yellow), chili & cheese, or just mustard, ketchup & sweet relish. I like the bakery buns rather than the bread truck variety - I like a little chew to by bun.. :D

LixyChick 08-19-2007 11:34 AM

I once went to a ball game and was astonished that they didn't serve burgers!

I don't like hot dogs...illllkkkkkkk!

I'll eat a Johnsonville brat every 2-3 years or so...with ketchup, mustard, onions and sweet relish (dill relish is for tuna) to sorta drown out the brat taste (I just like the texture). Other than that, the only weiner in my mouth is still attached to a human!!!!!!!

He likes me! He really likes me!

fzzy 08-19-2007 09:10 PM

OK, I know I'm a bit strange, but then that applies to more than what I like on my hot dogs, so I'll just proceed anyway ....

I like to cut my hotdot in half, and then put cheese in the middle to melt... on the bread I put mayo and sweet relish ..... that's a good one for me! :)

LixyChick 08-19-2007 09:31 PM

OMG fzzy! WTF have you been?

Um...ahem...I mean, um, you ain't strange!

Now...WTF have you been???????????????

Nice to see you posting sweety!

fzzy 08-20-2007 12:13 AM

xoxox to Lixy .... life has been incredibly busy, but hope ya know I miss everyone and none more than you! x's J

dicksbro 08-20-2007 05:59 AM

Hi, fzzy! :x:

Now, as for hot dogs ... for just a hot dog ... ketchup, a tiny bit of mustard, and onions does me just fine. Once in a while a touch of relish, sauerkraut or some melted cheese, but the big three are the ketchup, mustard (just a little) and onions.

I really do like coney dogs and we've got a really great place right here in town called Suzy's. They specialize in coney dogs with a record (posted on their wall) of over three hundred prepared for a section at a local factory for lunch.

Then, in Peoria, Mr. G's, carries fantastic hot dogs in dozens of flavors. Chicago style, coney dogs, cheese dogs, taco dogs and many, many, many more. Great for a change of pace or when you're feeling on the wild side!

IowaMan 08-20-2007 08:39 AM

Uh oh, I think DB is trying to get me craving hot dogs so I'll come over to Peoria for lunch and he'll have an excuse to go to Suzy's or Mr G's. :p

WildIrish 08-20-2007 01:52 PM

Sauerkraut & mustard...the only way to go.

But I have been known to fix it other ways. :D

IowaMan 08-20-2007 02:01 PM

Oh man, there goes dinner! :(

I bought hot dogs, buns and those little pretzels at the store earlier today. Now I won't be able to take a single bite without thinking of you WI. And my mind has been so screwed up lately that I'll probably enjoy it.

Teddy Bear 08-20-2007 02:53 PM

CasperTG......lol!! Yummy looking weiners!! Thanks for the pics! :D

fzzy...... good to see you. Hope all is well.

Now as for my hot dogs..... grill the bun til its slightly toasted, put yellow mustard in 1st, then the hot dog, cover it with fried onions!! Thats the best way!

But also like just ketchup. :)

Did you remember to get the potato salad? It's just not the same without it. :p
