The Ark ~ The critter ~ "Pic heavy"

Well the Ark inhabitants have dropped quite a number now :( With all that going on here, quite a few have new homes. Two by Two, out they went :boohoo: :boohoo:

I did a major reshuffle of my photobucket account, so most pic links will be broken in the old threads, so a new thread was the go eh.

Anyway my critters are now:

Dog ~ Scooby Doo
Cat ~ Scamp
Mice ~ MooMoo & Speedy
5ft tropical tank
2ft goldfish tank
3x betta tanks

Then we have the odd critter visitors *L*

I'll slowly start taking snaps again and adding them here for you to see.

Noah 05-17-2008 02:52 AM

5ft tank

Well, let me say, moving the 5ft was a bloody nightmare!

The poor fish were bagged for 1 1/2 days, non heated, while the tank was pulled down, moved and reset up. Thankfully no losses though that i can see!!

The substrate has all mixed in, so it is no longer black, but i dont mind the look actually. The driftwood has also been rearranged differently, again i dont mind that either. The new look has made the fish use the entire tank more, which is great for viewing them.

The bristlenoses, Nosette and Spike, now live in the 5ft. They are doing an excellent job of keeping any new algae under control.

I grabbed a quick snap of the 5ft yesterday.....i'll try for better pics later

The tank is seriously low in plants, the algae bloom prior to the move made me cull a few of the plants out when i replanted. I'll slowly start to replace what was discarded in the weeks to come.

Noah 05-17-2008 03:26 AM

2ft Goldfish tank

Meet Argon (mostly white) & Eragon (gold), these 2 were in my pond which was demolished in the move. They will stay in here until, i either get the pond redone or they outgrow the tank.

The tank deparately needs a makeover, my tank muse hasnt given me any inclination on the final tank outlook as yet *LOL* It will happen eventually, i am leaning towards the fake colourful tank for the goldies though *LOL*

PantyFanatic 05-17-2008 04:45 AM

Tell the truth. You had to move when the mice out numbered you, took over and threw you out.

Glad to see you are getting settled and set back up. Sorry to hear about the pond casualty.

Noah 05-17-2008 05:46 AM

*LOL*@PF

I'm VERY glad to be getting settled!! The pond was not a permanant structure, i just gotta get around to getting it set back up. Scoob is using the liner at present though, so i gotta get a new liner first *L*

Noah 05-17-2008 05:47 AM

A Visitor

Look who came to stay for a few days. I found him in a box and put him in a critter keeper for a few days so my sons could have a look at him (my youngest found out he bites *LOL*)

He has now been released back out into the garden, but i snapped a few pics of him before he left :)

We also had a large blue tongue drop in, but i wasnt catching him to take pics of *LOL*, they definately bite and bite HARD!

Anyway here's liz the skink

Lilith 05-17-2008 08:53 AM

eeek a skink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PantyFanatic 05-17-2008 11:13 AM

Your pic are truly National Geographic quality, Sharni. :thumb:
I think GG is going to like these pics.

Now, ................................ WTF is "a large blue tongue"?

PantyFanatic 05-17-2008 11:26 AM

Never mind! I know what a blue tongue lizard is now.

They say he is slow and gentle but that one won't fit under my shoe. :yikes:

(Note what is at the top of that page, Sharni ;) )

Noah 05-18-2008 03:17 AM

Scooby Doobie Dooooooooo

I was taking some pics of the house to email to Mum & Dad, and well, ole Scoob stole the show *LOL*

He absolutely loves the huge yard, he gets a kick outta chasing any bird that lands on the ground *L*

Oldfart 05-18-2008 06:20 AM

OF, PF needs to come over to try and cuddle this gentle lizard LOL.

Level 4 or 5 water restrictions in that lawn?

IowaMan 05-18-2008 07:22 AM

I could look at pics of Scoob all day long! He's such an adorable big lug! :loveshowe

PantyFanatic 05-18-2008 10:10 AM

OK. You can stay and unpack now. It looks like Scooby approves of the new place. :)

Noah 05-18-2008 01:10 PM

OF ~ *LOL*@gentle lizard. And yep water restrictions, i think they are level 4 out here. Mind you the only lawn is this side of the BBQ, the other side is a nasty bindii type weed, along with just about every other type of weed, which will be getting a drink of poison very shortly. Ya dont go barefoot past the BBQ!!!

IowaMan ~ I love taking pics of doo, he's so photogenic *L*

PF ~ Told ya lmao

Noah 06-20-2008 07:31 AM

The newest addition. Meet Simvar, he is a registered ragdoll, currently only 8months old, he lives with me and was my Mums beloved baby boy (he is special to me for this reason)

Some pics

A few of him with my Scamp boy (Scamp is now 18months old and looks smaller *L*)

PantyFanatic 06-20-2008 10:47 PM

Welcome Simvar, but Scamp is suppose to be sitting in the chair and Scooby should be looking at him from INSIDE the door. Not the other way around.

sodaklostsoul 06-20-2008 10:51 PM

Pretty Boy!!

Neige 06-20-2008 10:55 PM

Simvar is beautiful!!!

Lilith 06-28-2008 10:54 AM

OrliFanatic~ I was just gifted a huge aquarium. It's 24" wide x 24" tall x 12" deep. That is 61cm x 61cm. I am trying to decide what all I want to put in it. Any suggestions? It's on a big wooden stand with a cabinet below.

scotzoidman 06-28-2008 09:15 PM

Lil, did it come with a heater? If not, goldfish are best in cold water, but if you have a heater, there's a wide wonderful world of tropical fish available, far too many to list here. Once you decide which fish you like, it's important to find a knowledgeable person that can tell you which are compatible, & more importantly, non-compatible...I had to find out the hard way that some of the prettiest, most angelic-looking fish are born fin-nippers :bite: :yikes:

Fangtasia 06-28-2008 09:22 PM

Heya Lil

24" long (2ft or 61cm)
24" High (2ft or 61cm)
12" wide (1ft or 30.5cm)

That makes it 113.5litre tank or approx 30gal

Coolwater fish
Don't get comet goldfish, the tank would be borderline for 3 fancy ones though.
White cloud minnows in a nice planted tank

Tropical fish ~ heater required
With the height the tank has, 4 Angelfish, 2 bristlenose cats & maybe some nice tetras (not neons, they are small and adult angels will eat them) would look nice, tank planted with Val (will grow tall) and some anubias & java fern on driftwood. Angels prefer soft water (rainwater)

Any of the livebearers, platys, swordtails, mollies, guppies, they make for nice flashy colour, they will breed like rabbits, but they eat their own young, so not many survive to adulthood. These are very hardy type fish.

Some simple easy to care for plants are, Java fern, Anubias, Elodea and Val <---These will survive in low light.
If the tank has some sort of lighting you may be able to get some of the crypts and swords species.

Lilith 06-28-2008 09:27 PM

It has a light and I think a heater. I'd love to have something that makes babies so I can feed them to my turtle :p

Fangtasia 06-28-2008 09:31 PM

*LOL*. Then the livebearers are for you. The females are pretty much constantly preggers

 Orli

Livebearers were always my fav when I was a fishkeeper, at 1st it was Black Mollies, then I got into some very pretty guppies, delta tails & such. Most of the livebearers (or their ancestors) are native to the US east coast, & will thrive in the hard water that's probably in Lil's area. If you want to give the babies a fighting chance, there's floating breeding grass (artificial) that gives them a place to hide...& if you're like me, you'll get a 2nd tank for a nursery ;) Best bet is to find a good pet shop that specializes in fish & such, often there's a guy/gal behind the counter that's a fish nut, just waiting to dispense advice to a newbie. Sometimes such places will accept baby fish in trade for some supplies.

Fangtasia 06-28-2008 09:44 PM

If you can get some Java moss (another very easy plant), the survival rate of fry will be much higher, they can hide in it and the adults cant get to them *L*

Being as where you are Lil it gets warmer, you could get a bath or cheap pond and throw the fry into that to grow out some before being fed to ya turtle. The larger the area they have to grow out in the quicker they will do it.

Lilith 06-29-2008 08:10 AM

Thanks for the good ideas. I'm going to write down the plant names to take with me. I really want to do live plants if possible. I can not do them in the turtle tank because he eats them all.

PantyFanatic 06-29-2008 08:16 AM

Filter :rolleyes2

Noah 07-11-2008 08:11 PM

2ft tank

The goldfish have been rehomed, so now this tank is empty and has become my newest project. Pics will come as it progresses, but at this stage i am still gathering all the goodies for it. This tank will be a plant tank rather than a fish tank *LOL* in other words, mainly plants with a splash of fish just for flashy colour.

So far i have:
The tank (naturally *L*)
Black background sheet (AU$7)
The filter (already owned)
The light (already owned)
The CO2 (given free from lfs to try out)
The plant substrate (AU$30) ~ JBL AquaBasics

To come
Plant tube for light (AU$15)
The driftwood (AU$25, on order) ~ 2 small pieces
Rocks (AU$5 -$10) ~ petrified wood type
Topping gravel (AU$10) ~ colour undecided as yet
Plants (price varies depending on type)
Fish ~ will be a school of small fish, tetras, blue-eyes or such.

PantyFanatic 07-11-2008 11:15 PM

Those are some fantastic pics.

That black angel is beautiful.
