Avoiding the bumps

My girlfriend asked me to post this as her computer is on the fritz and won't be fixed till I can get over to un-fritz it. What are some of the methods people use to avoid getting the red bumps and irritation when shaving bikkini area and other delicate areas? I really like the look when she trims herself, but the irritation kinda makes it counterproductive.

Thanks much in advance.

Firstly shave only with the grain for a few weeks, while your skin gets used to it.
Also, some aloe-vera cream can help a lot.
And exfoliate! A normal facial exfoliant will do, it helps take the top layer of skin off, preventing upcoming hairs from getting trapped under the skin, causing ingrown hairs.

And lastly, don't shave every single day, for a while. Spread it out. Once or twice a week, then every second day, then every day. Take your time, your body takes a while to adjust and get used to it! Once you're used to it though, you can shave every day and have no trouble at all!

I usually use Nair and I never get bumps from that.

i'm allergic to nair so there's no chance of that stuff going down there...on my legs it took off all skin and no hair...i think it defeated the purpose

I use Bikini Zone before I get the irritation. It was so much better this last time too!

I put baby powder on and shave it off. I use the power as like a dry shaving cream. It works really really well for me. One of my friends said it breaks her out... I guess it depends on your skin

A splash of witch hazel right afterwards helps as well.
