Wtf???

While I agree that it's not a comfortable topic for some...there's a quote in there that disturbs me greatly.

*yawn*

I wouldn't buy the mag, the the cover is cool. Plus, it doesn't show the nipple.

IAKaraokeGirl 08-04-2006 01:09 PM

Which quote? A couple of them have me scratching my head.

WildIrish 08-04-2006 01:17 PM

Another reader said she was "horrified" when she received the magazine and hoped that her husband hadn't laid eyes on it.

"I had to rip off the cover since I didn't want it laying around the house," she said.

IAKaraokeGirl 08-04-2006 01:30 PM

Knowing you, I thought this might be it: ;)

"I was SHOCKED to see a giant breast on the cover of your magazine,"

It's a highly controversial topic for many people. What's maybe amazing to me is that it's taken so long to be THIS controversial. Is the U.S. in some kind of moral/Puritanical backswing? Are we "publicizing" this practice more than in the past? Are more mothers visible than in recent years? I dunno.

WildIrish 08-04-2006 01:40 PM

I have more of a problem with her "protecting her husband from seeing the image" than I do with understanding the debate from both sides.

IAKaraokeGirl 08-04-2006 01:43 PM

I agree. However, as someone said in the article, women all over TV and in other media are showing more than that on a regular basis. Will her husband leave her because he saw a woman feeding her baby? I'm sure he's never seen another breast besides his wife's.

osuche 08-04-2006 01:43 PM

Protecting her husband from seeing breasts? I guess she subscribes to the hole in the sheet option for sex?

Note to self....not everyone might agree with my philosophy...I sent my husband to a bachelor party at a strip club tonight....and I dug thru my purse for dollar bills so he'd have some for the fun. ;)

But I sure hope he doesn't see breasts there !! :D

I saw that in a movie recently. How funny is it that I, as the movie viewer, saw more of the wife's nude body than he did?

it all disturbs me. what crap.

disgusting? harumph. it's a baby being fed ferchristsake, not a sex act. get your priorities straight.

and that mag had every idea what putting pictures of boobies on the cover would do. bunch of money hungry shock jocks, if ya ask me...which you did. :D

Quote:
"There is a real puritanical streak in America," Moran told AFP. "You see celebrities practically baring their breasts all the time and no one seems to mind in this sort of sexual context.

"But in this very natural context of feeding your child, a lot of Americans are very uncomfortable with it."

This is the quote that had me so mad. You can I'm sure go to a magazine stand right now and see women on the covers with much more breasts showing than what is on the cover of Baby Talk. It just amazes me that this country has no problem with nudity at all unless it's being used in the way God (or nature if you want) intended it. :rolleyes2

Oh and Osuche you are the coolest chicky. I once went with my ex to a strip club and gave him dollars for the girls that were working so hard to entertain us.

The whole breastfeeding debate confuses me. WTF is the problem?

What'd be really funny is if it weren't really a breast but the side shot of someone's elbow or something.

lizzardbits 08-04-2006 02:37 PM

As a breastfeeding advocate, I'd much rather see that than a baby sucking on a bottle.

oh, I could go on for ages about it, just the ironic thing about Baby talk is that it is a free publication sponsored mostly by formula and bottle companies. Sadly, breastfeeding has been twisted into advertising for formula. tsk tsk

imaginewithme 08-04-2006 02:43 PM

That's too funny, trying to keep their husbands from seeing it.....how the heck did they get pregnant!? People need to get a grip.

I am proud of say I breastfed my baby for almost 7 months and I did it in privacy, even had to in ladies restrooms and women come in and look straight down at your boobs, even if they are covered.

What's the big deal!?!?!

That same guy she's hiding the mag from is probably on line lookin at porn and has playboy....idiot woman.

Ok, I'm done now.

lizzardbits 08-04-2006 02:51 PM

Woo Hoo! Good job IWM!!! That makes me proud to hear it!

I breastfed both my kids, and will do for any future babies.

It is the laws in many US states that a woman can breastfeed her child anywhere she is legally allowed to be, both public and private.
