In the UK, Valentine's day is essentiallyfor lovers....men celebrate women and women equally celebrate men. I have always been the one to make the effort on Valentine's day....book the table/cook the nice meal/plan a romantic outing etc. One year I paid for us to spend a weekend in a hotel, drove us there, provided us with Champagne, truffles, strawberries and even greeted him with a rose....he didn't even give me a card!

As for children, I understand that they want to be a part of it, and my Mum would occasionally buy us something little (my Dad would never have dreamed of doing such a thing) but in general, I think a Valentine's token needs to go across the genders...Dads give to daughters and Mums give to sons.

But really, Valentine's days is a day for celebrating love, in all it's glorious forms....giving a gift man-to man on valentine's day isn't going to affect anyone's sexuality, so why the hell not?! Do whatever you feel you want to.
