A few pieces have reached the level of "significant acceptance" if not art. I'm thinking, for example, The Decameron (subtitle: Prencipe Galeotto) by Italian author Giovanni Boccaccio. If you've never read the short stories contained in the book, they really are very erotic. Of course that was back in the late 1490's, but it was really very delightful. My Secret Garden and other books by Nancy Friday are modern books that also come pretty close. Those are just a couple, but I've no doubt that a few others have also achieved some level of recognition that puts them above being mere sex books. General acceptance, no, I doubt that.
