Yes, it is one of my favorite memories..
When we were done, all the women would clean up in the kitches. The guys would go in the family room and watch the games on TV. After we were done in the kitchen, we would get out the cards and play 'Shit on Your Neighbor'. The guys would slowly make their way back into the dining room... all except for my dad. He would lay out on the couch and ''watch the game'' with his eyes closed. Soon the rest of us would be into the card game.. laughing, joking, groaning and such. Eventually my dad would make his way into the room and just stand in the doorway. We would all slowly see that he was standing there.. his eyebrow would raise.. and we knew we had better tone it down ''cause he was watching the game". He would then go and get the wine and join in the card game....
I sure miss him. He died 8 years ago. I can count on one hand when he told me he loved me... he didn't have to say it - I just knew.
I think I will make giblet gravy this year..
