On a tour with two friends to Denmark in an old Volkswagen Bus we lost a part of the exhaust. I had to connect a tube to a pot, but the hole in the pot was double the size of the tube, and there was a distance of around 2cm between tube and pot.
On the floor I found a clamp, in a stack of trash I found some copper wire, at a near garage I bought an exhaust repair set (glassfiber sheets and clay) and for having some material we used sheet metal that we cut from sausage cans. For cutting the cans we used the scissors of a pocket knife and of the first aid box.
I bent one sheet as a lengthening of the tube and fixed it with the clamp. Another sheet with a hole of the size of the tube was used for closing the big hole in the pot, all that fixed with the copper wire, sealed with the repair set.
It worked perfectly, but cost halve a night for doing the repair. I still can feel the dirt and oxide in my eyes....
