A while back we had a discussion about the energy savings/reduced greenhouse gas advantages of switching to compact flourescent bulbs vs. the environmental effects of disposing of millions of flourescent bulbs containing mercury...I wanna save money & reduce my carbon footprint as much as anybody, but I'm concerned about ground contamination too. Yesterday I checked out our local waste/recycling centers' website, & was pleased to find that they do accept flourescent tubes AND CFs as "hazardous materiels", to be disposed of in a safe manner. I load up the Dodge with some other junk & a few tubes that had given their all (my basement is nearly 100% flourescent lighting), drove to east Nash., where they told me to dump the computer monitor at the hazMat shed, & told me to dump the tubes...

in the dumpster with everything else...

I could have saved the gas & thrown them in my own garbage can for that...
