Something between a cake and a (cookie) biscuit, slightly sweet, a little crumbly, often eaten with butter and jam. A sprinkle of sugar before baking gives it a faint crust. Volcano shaped, not a scone. It's a mid-afternoon break kind of thing. Some are heavier than others, with really heavy ones living up to their name. About 5 inches across. I think they're a Scots thing, but no hint of shortbread.
