Russia: The first major protest of the February Revolution occurred on 3 March [18 February in the Julian calendar, still in use in Russia at the time] 1917 as workers of Putilov (later called Kirov Plant), Petrograd's largest industrial plant, announced a strike to demonstrate against the government. Strikes continued on the following days. Due to heavy snowstorms, tens of thousands of freight cars were stuck on the tracks, with the bread and fuel.
