I used to, on occassion, ejaculate in such a manner. It has only happened twice since I became sexually active with a partner as opposed to masturbation. I don't know that it's anything I can "practice" despite the informative article mentioned previously. It's thrilling when it does and less messy and just as thrilling when it doesn't.
