Toyed with, as in experimented? Hell, I'm in full-blown reseach...see, all the principle components of my set-up are at least 30 yrs old, from my 1971 Sunn bass amp, Strat & P-bass are matching white-on-black 1964 models, and my prize Gibson ga-30 amp of indeterminate age, prob. pre-1950...quite the vintage collector I am, no?
