Most of us web surfers have trained ourselves to peruse the net in a manner like reading the newspaper. We scan over the page for the topic that brought us here and largely ignore the side adds plastered all around it, as with the paper, then scan them for dismissal unconsciously until something catches our eye. (that's why the advertizing industry exists and why they are there )

Internet adds have become as slick as any other media, to get our attention and strike a 'happy', 'funny' or other pleasing note to do this.
