On the two chests are they giving you the $500 for repair or they are taking them and just giving you the cash?
I printed them off and am taking them to a furniture designer I know.
in the mean time, keep playing mind games with PF.

Unless they are magic carpets made by Miracle-Grow, I’m not interested.

They are (now this is my understanding) paying me money to replace them. I don't think they are taking them but at this point they could. I am waiting to put them by the side of the road to get them out of my house.

The joints on the drawers are dovetailed. The front to corners have a sort of v dovetail and the rear corners have a tighter square pattern of a dovetail. I couldn't find a makers mark on either of them.

excellent craftsmanship - not sure that I've ever seen drawers stained on anything other than the front. It's a shame you have to let the pieces go.

Can you hang onto the pieces till campingboy gets back with an opinion from the furniture maker he's taking the pics to? Also...fine furniture makers usually burn a mark or name into the lesser woods they use on the inner structure of the drawers. Look on all sides of the inner parts of every drawer. If the piece is really old and tattered, often times some folks would replace the inner parts.
So sorry for your loss...they look like beautiful pieces of funiture!

The dovetails are hand crafted on the drawers note irregular spacing and width of the dovetails this chest is worth having repaired! the drawers look to be made of Oak most med &low quality chests used cheaper wood for the sides and back of the drawers and good wood for the front only. If you still plan on getting rid of it ask around to see if a woodworker would want it for the wood

Today is Canadian Thanksgiving, so you are going to have to hang in a bit longer.
But continue to play with pf's mind.

The insurance adjuster came by this morning and took a sheet from my husband. On the sheet my husband estimated the chest of drawers the older on at 800 and the 40s one at about 400 I believe.
My understanding is that you get to keep the pieces but they send you a check to replace them. If this is the case I will get the older piece redone and replace the 40s one.
I am still curious to find out what you can find out campingboy .... oh and don't worry I will play with PF.
