Yes, it is one of my favorite memories..
When we were done, all the women would clean up in the kitches. The guys would go in the family room and watch the games on TV. After we were done in the kitchen, we would get out the cards and play 'Shit on Your Neighbor'. The guys would slowly make their way back into the dining room... all except for my dad. He would lay out on the couch and ''watch the game'' with his eyes closed. Soon the rest of us would be into the card game.. laughing, joking, groaning and such. Eventually my dad would make his way into the room and just stand in the doorway. We would all slowly see that he was standing there.. his eyebrow would raise.. and we knew we had better tone it down ''cause he was watching the game". He would then go and get the wine and join in the card game....
I sure miss him. He died 8 years ago. I can count on one hand when he told me he loved me... he didn't have to say it - I just knew.
I think I will make giblet gravy this year..

((((((((((((((((((Chey))))))))))))))))
My father has been gone for 15 years and I remember a few holidays where he would'nt come see my sister because he did'nt like her 1st. husband. They did finally patch things up but did'nt matter cause they moved after that out of state.
I'm not into homemade dressing. I like the box stuff and even now I'm not so much into that sometimes. Not into yams either.

I think you're the first person I know to dislikes pecan pie. I've gained five lbs on pecan tarts & cake this month.

Just wanted to interject a little humor. Usually DH's reaction to a tofu dish I've made. Then, I bring out his sliced ham.

There's your problem...it has to be real homemade, with love, not that production line processed-till-it's-devoid-of-flavor tripe they serve in the greasy spoons...
mmm, soon as they figure a way to make a good sugar-free (or at least reduced sugar) pecan pie, I'm gonna pig out bigtime...
